20th Anniversary Glamour Awards & Giftbag Giveway

Hey loves,

When I first received the invite to the 20th Anniversary Glamour Women of the Year Awards, I was so excited. Yesterday I woke up on cloud 9, but three hours before I was supposed to leave my babysitter calls and abruptly cancels on me….again. I was so devastated. Since I don’t trust too many people with my lil man, I just resolved myself to not going. Two and a half hours later, by chance, I texted my favorite cousin  that I was having babysitter issues, and she agreed to come. She's a nursing student and is always incredibly busy, so I was shocked when she said yes. With thirty minutes to spare, I did my hair and makeup. Most of my makeup I applied in the cab. Anyway, here's a quick pic of me before I left. The dress was bought at TJ Maxx off of their Runway Collection for $99.99. It’s from a brand called IISLI. I know I don’t have a pic of the shoes but they were also from TJ Maxx from Lamb, and they were on clearance for $29.99. Really cute shoes too. The necklace is by that company Pnk Elephant. We reviewed them before.

My hair magic was done by myself with Conair’s New Nano Tourmaline Ceramic Infiniti Curling Iron. I will review that amazing iron soon. And my makeup was just my everyday makeup look. I ran out the door and jumped in a cab  headed to Carnegie Hall.

There were so many celebs in attendance. We weren’t supposed to be taking pics, but come on, I’m a blogger. Fergie, Kate Hudson, Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, Julia Roberts, Donatella Versace, Janet Jackson, so many amazing women.

But I wasn’t even starstruck, because I was more inspired by the everyday women that won, The Women of The Year Awards. There’s Dr. Abdi, my new shero. This woman is an OB/GYN in Somalia who treats thousands of people a year. Just on her land, she has 90,000 Somalians staying there. She was kidnapped last year, and her kidnappers threatened her and told her they were going to take her land, and facing death, she refused to give it to them. There was 18 year old Constance McMillan who fought for the chance to go to the prom with her girlfriend. There was another 18 year old who is building a real spaceship. There were so many amazing women there. Then by the end of the night, guess who walked on stage. OMG, I almost had a heart attack. Oprah!

My idol. We were breathing the same air together. It was magical. The message of the evening was YOU CAN DO ANYTHING! ANYTHING! AS LONG AS YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND WORK HARD! PLEASE BELIEVE THAT. DON’T GET DISCOURAGED. I am so inspired. Anyway, we got a great gift bag  loaded with L'oreal products, from L’oreal’s iconic Elnet hairspray, Ivanka Trump Jewelery,  to their new million dollar lashes so of course, I’m doing a giveaway.

Just leave a comment here telling me anything. Honestly, I would really love to know how you're pursuing your dreams, but if you don’t feel comfortable sharing that with the world, just any random comment would do. Winner gets announced Friday.

Remember in life, anything is possible. Don't get discouraged.  I truly believe that.

Dash NYC my visit

You girls know how much I love the Kardashians. I interviewed Kim here on Beautylogic and really loved what a genuine sweet girl she seemed. Her energy is magnetic plus in person she's so stunning, she takes your breath away. I also love the fact that instead of letting a bad situation have a negative effect on her life, she capitalized on it, and now she's pretty much a household name. I actually just recently put a pic up of Kourtney Kardashian on my vision board. I'd love her to be one of our future Entrepemoms.

Anyway yesterday I decided to pay a visit to Dash NYC. What a cute store. There were two burly security guys there so my picture taking was very limited.(Although one of them had some amazing eyebrows. He had a better arch than mine. I was about to ask him if he went to Damone Roberts.) But the store is pretty quaint. There are three pics of the girls when you walk in. Designer clothes everywhere.   But they don't just sell clothes. There's also Quicktrim and there's even Dash Water. Who knew?  It was packed when I got inside and by the time I left, there was a huge line of people waiting outside to get in. The prices were pretty typical of a high-end boutique. I tried on this dress (honestly just so that I could see the dressing room) but actually ended up loving it.

I loved that they also had Loren jewels there. Loren Ridinger, besides being co founder of Market America, Motives cosmetics, also designs jewels. If you don't remember Loren, she was our first entrepemom. I love her. She is my shero. Anyway her jewels were stunning. I wish I could have taken pictures, but those security guards, especially the one with the killer eyebrows kept eying me.

All in all, they carried a lot of gorgeous but expensive items. I think the only thing I could afford was the Dash Water. lol, But, it's in a great location too so if you're in NYC, you should definitely swing by, if not to buy, then just to take a look.

Tonight I"m heading to the Glamour Women of The Year Awards. Yes BeautyLogicBlog got invited! Can you believe it????  I'll be there reporting looks (including my own, my gay boyfriend Juan is coming over later to do my makeup), taking pics, and trying to get close to Zoe Saldana. I'll report on it tomorrow.

How was your weekend?

Zoya Sarah Sneak Peek & Polished Beauty Bar

Hey girls,

Yesterday I went to this fabu nail salon near my apartment  called Polished Beauty Bar. I was digging this place. First off they have these massage chairs that feel like there's an actual human being giving you a massage. Usually I hate massage chairs but not this one. It was amazing how great it felt,  and they also have NYC's biggest Zoya collection. Anyway, that place deserves it's own post so I'll talk about them sometime next week,  but what I was really loving was the fact that they had Zoya's new Winter Collection. (I haven't even gotten my hands on it yet.)  I had to get my nails done with the new Zoya Sarah. Isn't it gorgeous. You girls know how much I love my reds.

Zoya Sarah (W/Flash)

Without Flash- I think without flash is the way the color really looks.

Can we say gorgeous!

Do you love it?

Hopefully I'll get my hands on the whole winter line soon and have a review up shortly.

Seersucker Brooklyn is a Home Away From Home for this Southerner

So one of my favorite neighborhoods in Brooklyn is Carroll Gardens. It's such an unusual and eclectic place. You can find, great cafes, hipster bars, the boutiques, the dog on leashes and kids in strollers. Walking in this hood you forget you're in NY and think for second your in some utopian dream….and then you walk in to the restaurant Seer Sucker, and you realize in your dreams you can have biscuits!!!

Seersucker is a new restaurant in the neighborhood, its been here since just May, and from the menu to the décor it is a chic southern dig. Me, being from Florida, more exact Jacksonville, is where I grew up, which is more like southern Georgia, I set the bar high on knowing what down home cuisine taste like…and let me tell you they do an awesome job of impressing me!

Most Southern eateries try to over complicate the menu in taste, and by the time you eat, the taste of what you ordered feels like distant cousins or just a totally different dish. But here the quality of food is so high they serve you fresh food with bold flavor just the way I remember Mom Preparing.

I had the bean chilli soup and grilled cheese sandwich! It was so yummy all I needed was a blanket and a fire place!  And my friend ordered the open face catfish sandwich with chips. I was nervous to order this myself because I am very particular about how I my fish cooked, and even pickier with my tartar sauce…I am not joking when I say, it may be the best cat fish sandwich ever! I mean this!! It was so good all day I kept thinking “Go back and get the sandwich for lunch again, you know you want it, you deserve it you need it!” The sandwich was so flavorful, and crispy and yet so light I didn’t feel like a heffer afterwards. lol

And to end this heavenly day at Seersucker we had their signature Rice Pudding bowl.  So here they sit in front of me rice pudding with dulce de leche pecan pralines, and the seasonal compote berrys! It was fantastic, cruchy yummy goodness and with the classic tunes of the Beatles and Bob Dylan rotating in the back ground, I say once again all in all it was like going home for lunch, and anytime I can run away to get home is heavenly!

Question: When do you do your best thinking?

I wake up every morning at 5:30. It’s  a force of habit. The good thing is, hubby is already awake at that time getting ready for work so I get to see him before he leaves. After saying goodbye to him, I brew myself a cup of coffee and stand and stare out the window. It’s amazingly peaceful during that time. The sun still hasn't risen. The honkings of the horns haven’t started yet. There's no hustle and bustle going on and the small amount of cars driving  by mesmerize me. I noticed today that some of my best ideas have come from those 15 minutes of just staring out the window.

So my question to you is, when do you do your best thinking?

Also, just curious, I'm thinking about restarting my youtube videos. Please let me know which one you want me to do first.
1)    5 products your need for your hair
2)    how to blowdry your hair like this Dominican
3)    How to work out from home
4)    TJ Maxx Haul (theres a TJ Maxx in my building and that is my second home)

Duri 2010 Holiday Collection Brings The Sparkle!

Can you believe we’re about to celebrate Thanksgiving. Seems like yesterday the new year was just starting. What are your plans for thanksgiving? I don’t eat Turkey (makes me sleepy) so I may just make a delish pork shoulder. (In Latin countries that’s called a pernil.)A pork shoulder is pretty much the typical celebratory dish. I make a great one. If you want the recipe, email me.

The best thing about the holidays besides the family friends getting together thing, is the great holiday collections that come about especially the nail polish colors. I’m a nail polish fanatic. I got my hands on two of Duri’s Holiday Collection Nail polish colors.

There’s All That Glitters  and Pure Ice. I’m a glitter gal.  I love a good glitter polish especially during the holidays.

All that Glitters is literally  a clear nail polish with thousands of flecks of gold glitter. I'm all about the glitter though. I think I was a drag queen in my past life. lol
The application of this is great, no leaking, no running and you can do with one coat, although I’m always a two coat type of gal.

The next one is Pure Ice. This one is my favorite of the two. It’s a pearl color, with tiny flecks of red and gold glitter. Compared to the glitter of All that Glitters, this is a much tamer version. The glitter doesn’t over power the pearl base at all. I like this one a lot.

Are you a glitter girl?

Do you think glitter went out after you hit your twenties?

Were you a drag queen in your past life? lol

What are your thoughts?

Hugs,

Milly
