First Day of The International Beauty Show-Hair

Alright, heres the skinny on the International Beauty Show. It's loaded with Brazilian Keratin booths. I have to do a full post on Keratin soon. The keratin people really go full force at IBS. Now, I was kind of sick yesterday, and if you live in NYC, you know the rain was one of the worst ever,  so I didn't stay too long, but, yesterday was my hair day at IBS. My plan was to focus solely on hair trends yesterday and on Tuesday I will focus on makeup.   Let's talk whats going on in hair. Argan oil is so huge now. Everyone is making an Argan Oil product. Companies have now even added Argan Oil infused flat irons and curling irons. These irons style your hair while simultaneously conditioning it with Argan oil.

Remember this company Agadir. If you don't check the review I did on them here. Anywho, they came out with a new moisture mask.  (I will have a review up shortly once I've used it) and a leave in Agadir styling spritz. You use the Agadir styling mist  as you style your hair. You can also use it on your skin.

The owner of Agadir and their hair stylist saw my hair, and could not believe the health and shine. When they asked me what I used, I told them, "A lot of things, but mostly coconut oil." The owner insisted  that I be a hair model and allow their beautician to style my hair wih their latest Agadir styling spritz. Since my hair was a hot mess from the nasty weather, I agreed. Here's my hair after it was styled using thier Agadir styling mist, and a Chi curling iron.

Here's the bad part, when you're a hair model, everyone and their mother is touching and caressing your hair. Over 100 people touched my hair and even pulled it to see if it was real. WTH!!!  I felt so dirty and used afterwards. lol  I was dying to run home and wash it.

Next Babyliss just came out with a hair dryer that they worked with Ferrari to create. This thing has a Ferrari engine. Not sure how that would affect my hair, but it did look nice.

All in all, I saw a lot of the same stuff from last year. But, since I left a little early, I will see if there are any more hair trends worth reporting on when I go back on Tuesday. I'm hoping coconut oil products will become the next hair trend.

Mally Roncal-QVC Today's Special Value 12 am Tomorrow! & Updates for Next Week

                                  Mally and Me

When I first started Beautylogic four years ago, it was really difficult for me to get peeps to talk to me on the site.   It's really sad  how many people won't help you unless you're established. Anywho, one of the first people to ever ever let me interview them was fabulous makeup artist Mally Roncal. I never forgot how wonderful Mally was , and since then, I've been such a fan of hers. The motto to her makeup line is "Kindness is the New Black." Hello! What a wonderful saying! Plus her makeup line is fabulous and we share a lot of makeup beliefs. I never wear translucent powder. I hate it. I used to wear it and noticed I looked a lot older. No one understood my belief, except Mally. She believes the same thing!!! She actually created a new product called the Poreless Perfection Skin Finisher.  It's a modern alternative to finishing powder. It won't make you look dry, and cakey like translucent. Anyway, tomorrow Mally will be on QVC pretty much the whole day introducing the world to some fabulous new products of hers so please make sure to watch beginning at 12:00am.

Here are updates for next week:

Tarte's new neutral eyeshadow palette/review/swatches
Reviewing Wen Conditioner
New Nail Polish Swatches
Airbrush Foundation-is it worth the hype.
Cassie's review of Hair Rules Salon with relaxed hair.
And I'll be reporting new products from the International Beauty Show.

Hugs,

Have a great weekend!

Pump up the volume with Giovanni Root 66 Max Volume Conditioner

Two weeks ago, Lil Man and I were at Whole Foods buying some baby food when I remembered I needed a conditioner. I quickly picked up Giovanni's Root 66 Max Volume Conditioner, because it was on sale for $5.99 and I realized that I've never blogged about this product.  I think one bad thing about some natural conditioners is that they can sometimes leave your hair a little greasy. Many of them do use natural oils to moisturize the hair. However, with Giovanni's Root 66 Max Volume Conditioner, you don't get that. This product although not 100% natural does contain many organic and natural ingredients. I adore this conditioner for so many reasons. It contains horsetail extract, which I know is high in silica, (silica is great for hair)  and this really gives my hair a brilliant shine and so much volume. I hate when my hair is flat with no volume. I have a big head, and when my hair is flat, you can really see how big it is. This conditioner also smells delicious like fruit, and it's a pretty thick consistency.  It also really y detangles my hair. This is one of my fave conditioners and I'm pretty sure you can get it on sale right now at Whole Foods or at Vitacost.

That's my hair after using conditioner.

Powerful Anti-Aging Weapon-Vitamins

During the summer when I turned sixteen, I was having a blast. My grandmother was visiting from the Dominican Republic, and every day I would pretty much do the same thing. I'd wake up. Grandma would whip up an amazing but incredibly fattening breakfast and lunch for me, while I sat on my couch, did nothing except eat and watch reruns of The Golden Girls all day. It was so fun-well for me it was. My mother on the other hand, would come home exhausted from work, and find me in the same position every day, on the couch...eating and watching Golden Girls. She wasn't loving it.  One day she came home and told me that the next day I was to meet her in the city."Are you crazy???" I said "Tomorrow is the episode where Rose dates the midget, that's one of my favorites."After giving me one of her I will whip your butt looks, I knew she meant business, and the next day I met her on 57th street in Manhattan in front of the Vitamin Shoppe. She walked me in, and introduced me to the manager. She then told me that starting the next week, I would be working there. I had a fit, I was furious. How could she make me get a job! How could she separate me from my beloved Golden Girls! It's bad enough I was missing my favorite episode that day. Here's a clip of that episode:

Turns out though working there was one of the best experiences of my life. I actually ended up loving it, and I credit what I learned there, with the fact that yesterday morning, after going for a jog, I was walking past a corner store, when I saw that the mega millions lotto was 88 million (that's a lot of moolah!). When I went to play, the guy asked to see my id. When I told him i was out jogging, and didn't have my id, he refused to let me play. His exact words to me were, "You don't look over 18, sorry." Ladies, I've been over 18 for yearrrrrrs! Do you know how happy I was when he said that. Anyway, back to my vitamin shoppe story.  One of the workers there was this beautiful Italian woman. You would have sworn she was no older than 40, turns out she was 67. When she told me her age, I couldn't believe it. I was in shock. She then told me "Yes, you can look like me, just take vitamins." I then told her "I don't need to anti-age, I'm not even 17, plus I moisturize constantly." She then said "Of course you should take vitamins now, you want to prevent aging while you're young." Since I saw what vitamins did for her, I asked that she recommend a plan for me. I took the vitamins she recommended for years, and I'm happy to say, as a child who never wore sunscreen, who was always hanging out in the sun as a youth, I still get carded when buying lotto. I'm sure some of it is  because of the topical stuff, but I'm also sure it's because of the vitamins and minerals that I've been taking since I was sixteen. Here's some vitamins I have been taking since my teens. I've added a few more since then, but these are the ones that have been consistent for years.  However, please note, I am not a Doctor, nor a nutritionist.  Consult with a Dr or nutritionist before taking any of this especially if you are pregnant/nursing!

1) Borage Oil-This was one of the first things she told me to take. This contains GLA which is Gamma Lineolic Acid. So great for preventing dryness of the skin, Also when I met Dr. Murad, that's one of the first things he said was great for skin.
2) Vitamin C specifically Ester C which gets absorbed in your body better-This is not only an immune system builder, but is important for building collagen.
3) MSM-since I'm breast feeding, I can't take this now, but I used to constantly. This is sulfur, which is essentially great for hair skin and nails
4) A food sourced multi vitamin-I say food source because those are the ones that get absorbed in the body better.Try Rainbow Light Brand.
5) Co-Enzyme Q10- a powerful antioxidant (haven't taken this since breast feeding though.)
6)Flax seed (I used to take this, but now that I'm breast feeding, I stopped and take this fish oil. )
7) Zinc Picolinate-People don't realize how amazing zinc is for skin, but do some research. Zinc protects agains uv radiation, and a lot of other things.

Anyway, I took these for years, some of these I still do. The fact is, you girls know that I love good beauty products, I recommend them constantly but I also know that what's taken internally is helpful as well. The great dermatologist like Dr. Murad, Dr. Perricone, believe in internal anti-aging too. Looking at my mother, and seeing that she looks way younger than her age, and knowing that she takes vitamins is also proof to me that vitamins work! I'm sure many of you are not in your teens anymore. According to my site statistics majority of my blog readers are over 24, but I advise you to start anti-aging internally asap!

How do you antiage?

Do you still get carded when buying lotto?

Do you love The Golden Girls too?

Update: Totally forgot to add why I mentioned the Vitamin Shoppe Experience. Sometimes what you think is the worst thing for you, could actually be the best thing in the long run! Because of that job, I learned so many things, and I still look 18. LOL

Milly

Pedicure & Manicure Question

Hey Girls,

Recently,  I went to get a pedicure with a girlfriend of mine and she thought it was really strange that I bring my own tools when I get my pedicure/manicure done.  A few years back, I used to regularly go to a pedicure/manicure place around my house. Everything looked pretty clean and legit. I became very friendly with my pedicure girl, and she whispered to me one day right before beginning my pedicure, " The autoclave here does not work, and the owner hasn't fixed it." I was in shock. I was also incredibly scared after that. (I'm a bit of a hypochondriac.) Ever since then, I not only bring my own tools, but I also ask the people right before they do my pedicure to please wash the pedicure bin in front of me. (I did that when I was with my girlfriend and she was so embarrassed.) I've seen many pedicurist not wash the bin after someone gets out, then take another client, that's a breeding ground for fungus, and foot infections. yuke!

So I'm curious, do you bring your own pedicure/manicure tools when you get your nails done?

Are you a hypchondriac like me?

If you need tips on where to get pedicure tools, email me and I'll give you the web address where I got mine.

Lancome Color Design Taupe Craze Eyeshadow Palette

I'm really loving Lancome's new Color Design eyeshadow palette in Taupe Craze. These shadows are extremely pigmented, and are geared towards neutral lovers like myself.

When I first got into eye shadows, I had no idea where to put any of the shades. Since, that's been over ten years I've gotten  better, but I really wished they had palette's like Lancome Color Design around back then. This palette gives instructions on  where to put each shade,  and it also provides a booklet which shows exactly  how to put it, and gives a detailed picture showing how the end result should look. Also, it gives you two looks, a day and night time look.  I love that. Anything that makes my life easier is always a win for me! lol.

Here are swatches of the palette. The all over base is a pretty matte satin peach. The lid shade is a beautiful tan shade with shimmer. The crease shade is a medium brown matte. The highlighter is taupe with shimmer and the liner is a dark brown with silver shimmer. I'm all over this palette, although the highlight was a bit tricky for me. I actually used it in the inner corner of my eye and liked it there.

All in all, this palette will be used heavily on nights out. I actually used it on Saturday night when I went out with hubby and he liked it. When hubby notices my makeup, that says a lot.The man never notices my makeup. His excuse, "Why should I notice your makeup, I love your natural beauty." My only qualm with this product though is it's pretty expensive. $48.00 bucks.

What are your thoughts on this palette?

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush is a Win Win!

From left to right: Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in  natural beauty: dollface and blushing bride

Lately with my irritable, teething constantly crying lil man, I've had no time to really do my makeup.   Usually I put on some blush and a gloss and I'm running out the door. (Taking walks with him is the only thing that will calm him down.)   A blush that I've been reaching for a lot lately is Tarte's Amazonian Clay Blush in Blushing Bride.

I first really got into Tarte stuff when I was pregnant.  Their stuff excludes so many unnecessary irritants and harmful ingredients. Their Tarte Royalty Collection and Tarte Ten palette were probably my two faves for 2010. Anyway, let's get back to the blush. First of all I love this blush for a few reasons. It last twelve hours. Yes I said it twelve hours. It's loaded with antioxidants like Vitamin C and Vitamin E. (Hello, this stuff makes me look gorge and keeps me looking young, I'm sold!) And the whole Amazonian Clay thing is pretty spiffy too. Amazonian clay  is full of nutrients, balances the skin, and reduces dryness and flakiness.I love that these blushes are so pigmented. Honestly one swoop of this product on the cheeks is all you need. The blush comes in eight colors. First of all, look at the packaging. How cute is that! Blushing Bride is a really pretty plum rose that does have a bit of shimmer but on my tan skin it gave me just the right amount of flush. I'm surprised I liked this one so much because of the shimmer, but when applied, it's not bad at all. I was also sent Natural Beauty which is a matte reddish pink, and Dollface which is straight hot pink. Here are the swatches, click to enlarge:

Left to right: Natural Beauty, Dollface and Blushing Bride

All in all I love this blush. The longevity, the crazy amount of pigment, and the anti-aging factor make this a win for me.

Go to your local Sephora and check them out!

Skintervention by Scott-Vincent Borba

Hey guys how are you?

I've got a slight bug, so I've been taking it a little easy (as easy as I can take it with an 8 month old). One way I've been relaxing is getting some much needed reading done.  As you girls know, one of my goals is to stay looking 21 forever.  I was recently sent the book Skintervention by Scott Vincent Borba, creator of those Borba beauty drinks and skin care line,  and this book will definitely help me on my quest to stay looking young. It is loaded with so much information on how to treat your skin, massive anti-aging techniques and my fave part, Do It Yourself beauty recipes. Here are some interesting facts from the book.

1) A quick fix for dark circles and puffiness is to put an ice cube on the roof of your mouth and hold it with your tongue. The cold will literally help draw down the puffiness underneath the eye area. In a few moments you'll look more refreshed, and awake.
2)The key ingredient people suffering from acne should look for is sulfur.
3) The key ingredient people who want to antiage should look for is Hyaluronic Acid.
4) He suggest adding Cayenne pepper to your diet and facials because it increases flushing of the sin, and enhances the clarity of your skin.
5) He also talks about the acai berry. ( I put that in my smoothie every morning.) It's amazing for anti-aging. It has high level of Omega 6 and Omega 9 which are great for the skin and he says some people believe it slows the aging process.
6) If you want to look younger, and get back your youthful glow, eat leafy green veggies. The best choices are spinach, radicchi, Swiss chard, romaine, butter leaf, arugula etc

Here's two of his Do It Yourself recipes for fab skin:

DIY Pore Opening Scrub
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon white or brown sugar
Mix baking soda with sugar. Leave on until you feel tingle. After that wash off. The sugar will open your pores and the baking soda will clear up skin imperfections and mattify your skin.

Under Eye Treatment
1) banana
2) Vaseline chilled in the fridge overnight.
Mash the banana and a quarter sized amount of Vaseline, apply under your eyes. Wrinkles, lines and swelling will be visibly reduced and your foundation and concealer will glide right on.

His book is loaded with these do it yourself recipes, as well as  fascinating information about skin, as well as his plan for how you can get Red Carpet Ready Skin in 7 days and even how to make cocktails that are beneficial for your skin.  All in all, this book was great.

You can order it here.

Milly's Do It Yourself Beauty Recipes

It always amazes me when I go to my country, Dominican Republic, the beauty of the women in the poorest of the villages. None of these women have money to spend on expensive masks or skin products. I remember three years ago, I was in a very poor area of the country visiting  when I spotted this girl, who took my breath away. She had healthy thick black hair up to her waist, and her skin was a beautiful glowing bronze without any marks or anything. When I asked her what her beauty secrets were, she laughed at the question and said "Aceite de Coco" which means coconut oil. She also told me she used "aguacate" which means avocados on her skin. I'm a huge believer in Do It Yourself remedies for your beauty. I  especially used them while I was pregnant. I'm also a huge believer that beauty does not have to cost a fortune. So here are two of my  Favorite Do It Yourself Hair Conditioners. I do a lot of these, but I'm doing a youtube soon on them, so I can't reveal all of them yet.

Coconut & Honey
1) Coconut Oil-Enough said. Read here.
If you don't feel like reading, here's a quick summary, coconut oil was tested amongst other oils, and was the only oil that actually worked on hair. The others just sat on your hair and did nothing.
2) Honey-powerful humectant that is loaded with vitamins and minerals, that are so essential for shiny hair.
Mix these two together. Apply to hair and leave on for about 15 minutes. Also, massage your scalp. So important  especially for hair growth.
When removing, make sure you rinse hair with water and half a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple Cider Vinegar will give you the shiniest hair ever, HOWEVER, you will stink  like a straight salad. The smell goes away after a few hours.  I once took the subway right after using the apple cider vinegar, lets just say, the train was packed like crazy with passengers, but strangely, the seat next to me remained empty. LOL
If you're scared of smelling like a salad then I highly suggest you mix it with an essential oil.
You can get coconut oil pretty much at any health food store. Get the unrefined one too.  Lately though I've been making my own. I might do a youtube on that too.

 Bananas for hair
I use organic bananas.(Usually when they are almost black. If you want to increase the speed of getting your bananas almost black stick them in a bag, they'll ripen up a lot faster.). Also, I've heard about using baby food bananas. If you're going to do that, I would only use an organic baby food like Plum Organics. Anyway, if you're going to use regular bananas, you can mash this yourself, or blend with a little bit of water, or even coconut oil, and apply and again massage your scalp with this and spread through the hair. Bananas are LOADED with vitamins and Potassium, which are great for helping you get the sexy back in your hair.  I had heard about bananas and their benefits but never thought to try it until I watched Dr. Oz and he talked about how bananas are a great  deep conditioner. If you want to really shine up your hair, rinse with apple cider vinegar and water.

Hope this helps.
Also, a great thing about Coconut oil is you can use it for so many things.
1) Removing eye makeup
2) Moisturizing your dry winter skin. Mix it up with an essential oil if you're not comfortable with the smell.
3) Cook with it. I make a mean coconut salmon using coconut oil.
4) Someone on twitter recently tweeted to me about using it as a mouth wash. Not sure if I'd do that, but hey, they said it's great for preventing tooth decay.

Do you want to share some of your Do it Yourself Beauty Recipes?

Have a great weekend!
Hugs,

Milly
