CVS, Allure and Maybelline: Three Spring Runway Beauty Trends

Maybelline makeup artist head, Gabriel Almodovar and Milly

During Fashion Week,  I was invited to the Allure Beauty Breakfast with CVS and Maybelline, to talk three hot Spring Trends. For the Spring season, it's all about: Intense Lips and Brows, (So upset my brows just don’t grow!) 2) Sunny Skin and 3) Two-Toned Eyeshadow. CVS, Allure and Maybelline are teaching us how to incorporate these runway trends into our everyday life using drugstore products,  so let’s get started:

1st Trend: Intense Lips and Brows
Maybelline makeup artist Gabriel Almodovar demonstrating intense lips and brows.

During fashion week, makeup trends in shows such as Jason Wu,  Altuzarra, and Donna Karen were all about intense colored lips and bold brows. At the Altuzarra runway show they actually layered black eyeshadow on model's eyebrows to really intensify them-it almost looked cartoonish.  So here’s how you can get the bold lips, bold eye look using products all available at CVS. Gabriel Almodovar,  makeup artist for Maybelline suggest if you’re going to do these looks to make sure you maintain balance. You can definitely do strong lips and strong brows, but keep the eye makeup itself soft. To get the intense color, Gabriel says use Maybelline Color Sensational Coral Crush lipstick, which will give you that super intense lip color you’re looking for. Here's an interesting fact: lipstick sales this year have finally surpassed lipgloss sales. So lipsticks are making a huge comeback. Now to get an intense brow, Gabriel recommends using Maybelline’s Define a Brow. When it comes to defining the brows, Gabriel recommends drawing little short strokes to emulate the brow hair. Start at the end of the brow to create your tail (many woman's brows end prematurely) then go through the brow to darken it in short strokes.

2nd Trend-Sunny Skin

Tracy Reese Show
On the Spring runway shows, it was all about sunny skin. But not just putting the bronzer where you normally place it, over the cheekbone and over the nose, but actually applying the bronzer a little lower on the cheek, and then working orange and pink blush into the bronzer to create a sunny bronzed look. We saw this at Tracy Reese, Christian Siriano and Derek Lam. To recreate the look at home, Maybelline makeup artist Gabriel Almodovar says you can use two Maybelline Fit Me products; Fit Me Deep Bronzer and  Fit Me Deep Coral Blush.

Gabriel says in order to apply correctly, tilt head slightly back, make sure your hair is pulled back as well. Now start applying the bronzer beginning from hairline and going down to the cheek area. That way the bronzer is heavier at hairline then tapers off. Then begin to blend, although with this look the bronzer  doesn't have to be  too blended  because we'll be placing blush right over it. After applying bronzer, pick up Maybelline Fit me blush in Deep Coral and place it right where you applied bronzer and bring it up to the apple of the cheeks. Walaa You’re ready for the runway!

3rd Trend: Two-Toned Eyeshadow

Another popular beauty trend seen on the runway was two distinctive eyeshadow shades on the eyes. We're placing one specific color on lid, and once specific color on crease, not really blending the colors together.  Peter Som used lilac on lid and darker burgundy on crease. To create this look at home, use Maybelline Color Explosion Eye Studio Amethyst Ablazed.

Use the bottom color on lid but make sure you pack color on with your brush. You really want that lid color to show. Then go in with a pointy dome brush, and place darker color in crease, but don’t blend as much as you’re used to. We want to see the 2 distinct colors.  Then complete the look by using Maybelline Falsies. (My current favorite drugstore mascara.)

All in all these 3 looks have currently been the most popular on the runway.

All of these products can be found on www.cvs.com
