Oils 101-Argan Oil

You guys know how psycho in love I am with my hair, and how much I adore using natural oils to keep her pretty. But with all these different oils to choose from, how do you know what's right for you or which ones really work or are just hype? Once a week, we'll talk about a specific oil. This week we begin with Argan Oil.

Argan oil has taken the US hair industry by storm. It's an incredibly rare oil only available only in the southwestern part of Morrocco. It grows from the seeds of the argan tree. Loaded with vitamin E, squalene, essential fatty acids ( so great for the hair and skin) this oil is truly wondrous. Berber women (group indigenous to morocco) are responsible for the production of the oil which is a lengthy and arduous process. A great benefit of the increased popularity of the oil is that these poor and hardworking women are now being represented by many women groups, and are getting many benefits including health care and education. I'm loving that this product not only works for beauty, but helps to fight poverty in Morocco.

I adore Argan oil, and it's nutritional value can't be denied.Although many of us just use it for the hair, it is also known for doing wonders on the skin. Here are a few products that contain Argan oil.

Derm organic Sulfate Free Argan Oil Shampoo



I haven't tried this yet, but have heard great things, and plan to get my hands on it.

Macadamia Oil

This oil is a mixture of Argan and Macadamia oil, and works some serious pretty on the hair.

Josie Maran Argan Oil Stick 

I keep this in my bag at all times. I use it to moisturize my lips, my hands, my legs. It's organic like most of Josie's stuff, and is great. 

Kaeline Firming Night Cream

Haven't tried this yet, but I'll have to get my hands on it soon. Loaded with not only Argan oil, but jasmine oil and other essential oils,  this night time treatment sounds like it's just what my skin needs.

Beauty Doesn't Have to Cost a Fortune-Hot Tools Tourmaline Dryer

Recently I was blowdrying my hair with a $200 blowdryer that I had gotten not more than 10 months ago. All of a sudden, as I was drying, I begin to smell the stench of burning rubber, and my blow dryer took it’s last breath and died. I tried everything to revive her. I shook her. I unplugged and replugged her. I blew furiously in her barrel, but she was gone. I screamed, I cried, I begged her to wake up, but alas, she was gone. Suddenly, I became frantic. I needed to be somewhere in an hour and my hair wasn't even half dry. Quickly I ran the two blocks to TJ Maxx. I spotted a Hot tools Tourmaline dryer.



I grabbed it. The price at TJ Maxx was forty bucks, but of course the retail was like $90.00. I know we’re taught that quality hair dryers should cost more than $100 bucks, but I was desperate. Plus, last year at fashion week in the Total Beauty Suite, one of Ted Gibson’s hairstylist was using a hot tools flat iron on my hair, and he said they had some of the best hair tools. Remember guys, beauty never has to cost a fortune.

Anyway, I ran back home, and began to dry my hair. My thick head of hair was dried and styled fabulously within 30 minutes. The first thing I noticed about this dryer was how quiet it was. The second thing I noticed was how quick my hair was drying. When I dry my hair, I always make sure to swoop the ends up because I like my hair to have a lot of body, and bounce, and then I usually pin it up until I’m done drying so that I can maintain the curl throughout the day. Because I was in a rush, I didn’t pin the curl up, but the bounce still lasted all night. My hair was so super shiny after using this dryer, and I had very little amount of cowlick. I can’t believe the little amount I paid for this dryer. I’ve been using it for over a month, dropped it a few times, (because I’m clumsy), hit it with my bathroom door, and it still works great, and I finish drying and styling my hair within 30 minutes. Love Love Love it!

BEE-HAIR-NOW HAIR REPAIR CONDITIONER

You guys know how I feel about my tresses. There is nothing like my hair. I love love love her. She’s so pretty! (yes I’m still talking about my hair, you know I’m a little conceited when it comes to her.) Anyway, this weekend in NY was downright miserable. Saturday was horribly rainy and gross, and sticky. So I decided to go to whole foods to do my grocery shopping (I hate grocery shopping). Anyway, I ended up in the “whole body” section. That’s where whole foods keeps their beauty products. I wanted to try a new conditioner, and I stumbled upon this one.

BEE-Hair –Now Hair Repair Conditioner


This conditioner contains royal jelly, honey, Bee Pollen (considered to be the most complete food on earth) Calendula, parsley, rosemary, and other amazing natural ingredients and most of them are organic. It’s also Paraben, SLS and synthetic fragrance free. Well the results were great. Yesterday was Sunday which of course is my “me” day. It’s the day where I kick Mr. DE out and spend the day meditating and doing girly things with myself, like washing and doing my own hair, putting a masque on, and just plain old relaxing. I hope you ladies have a “me” day too. Anyway, when I applied this, the first thing I noticed was it’s citrus smell. It was delicious. It’s a pretty thick conditioner, and I left it on for around 2 minutes. Wow, when I removed it, my hair was left so detangled,and feeling oh so smooth. I then decided to do my own hair, so I put a roller set in, and when I removed the roller set, and dried my hair, the results were great. My hair was soooo shiny, incredibly soft, and seriously full of volume, not weighed down at all.
