How Deep is Your Love?

I was hanging out with my favorite couple around 3 days ago, and seriously, I can’t get over how cute these two are. They’ve been together for 23 years, have 2 kids, and genuinely love being around each other. I asked them what their secret was for being together so long and not wanting to kill each other. They told me that laughter is their secret-even after so long, they can still laugh together and make each other laugh. Here are some other great couples that look like laughter is their secret too:

The Obama Team ( Married 16 years)

Team Lopez (Married 4 years)

B and J (Married less than a year-together for over 5)

Ellen and Portia (Married less than a year-together for 4)

What’s your secret to long lasting love?

Do you think there is a secret?

Have a great weekend loves.

Hugs,
DE

Great topic... I do agree that laughter is very healthy in relationships and also just in general; it helps to keep you young and light at heart.

I agree with you and Wes on the laughter part...my novio and I (we have been together like 15 months) still feel fresh and new and I think it's because we don't take everything too seriously...we both have a corny type of humor and we laugh at each other...that helps a lot :)
But outside of having fun with one another and laughing I think another secret is the cliche word of communication....don't hold anything back.

I've been with my boyfriend for 6 years (since I was 17) and we've been living together for almost 2 years. I think laughter is a big part of why we're still together. Sometimes we just sit and giggle and laugh over the stupidest things but it's funny to us. Recently his mother told me she's never heard him laugh so much since we've been together and that made me feel really good. :)

Google her name and a picture of her is on the NY social diary!

Don't ask me who the woman Oscar is with though.

Great topic. I think communication, honesty, trust, confidence, support and as others said laughter is key

In addition to what everyone else has wrote: being considerate. When you're in a relationship, it's not supposed to be "just about you"--it's about both of you.

More important than that, is not compromising yourself. Don't ever-forever ever- lose yourself or let yourself go in a relationship.

Even more important than the previous two: at least once every two weeks (or once a week if you can do it)have an at home spa night with the person. It's important to make time for each other.

My in-laws just celebrated their 50th anniversary together, and my husband and I just celebrated our 11th. My mom-in-law told me when I had my first daughter to always remember that love changes... it's different when you have the butterflies in the stomach for one another, and different after you're married, and different after you have kids, and different still after you send those kids off to college. As long as you can recognize that love is not going to feel the same always, but that it's STILL love, and you afford your mate all that comes when you truly LOVE someone, then your relationship has a better chance of lasting. I wrote about this on my blog in celebration of m in-law's anniversary... come on over and check it out. Great post--great question!
