I hope your thanksgiving was amazing. Mine was great. I went to see my Grandmother, and my whole family was there. My aunt (from the south) made the best stuffing and homemade sweet potato pies ever. I was in heaven. Yum Yum! Now let's talk beauty.
In my last post, I introduced you to my new obsession which is my Carol’s Daughter Mango Melange Sea Salt Body Scrub. A few months ago I had heard that my other obsession Beyonce, loved Carol’s daughter Mango’s products so you know I had to get my hands on this. (Did I ever tell you that Beyonce’s makeup artist’s assistant said B and I look alike? I think that was my best day ever! Although I don't see any resemblance at all, lol). Anyway, B knows what she’s talking about. This scrub is magnificent. First of all the scent is heavenly fruity like a mix of delish mango with coconut, yummy! It reminds me of the islands, and when I open it, thoughts of my happy summers in the Dominican Republic come back to me. But not only that, it also thoroughly exfoliates my skin, without being harsh, and it contains some serious nourishing oils like almond and jojoba to really moisturize my skin. By the time I’ve rinsed this off, not only does my skin smell like delicious island fruit but it’s so soft and smooth, I don’t even need to use any lotion when I’m done.

FYI: For all you Carol’s Daughter Fans, Lisa Price founder of Carol’s Daughter will be on hand at the Harlem Flagship Store tomorrow November 29 from 2-5 and would love to meet her customers. Also, the finale of Modelville –the show where women are competing to win a contract with Carol’s Daughter is airing their finale on the Tyra Banks Show December 1.
How was your Thanksgiving?
Did you eat like Crazy?
My diet officially starts today.
Big hugs,

Ah, it’s the season to be thankful, and I know I’ve got so many reasons to say thanks. BEAUTY OF THE WEEK KERRY DIAMOND & BEAUTYLOGIC'S HUGE LANCOME GIVEAWAY!!
Kerry Diamond, heading to the Met Costume Institute Gala. Next to her is Andrew Sotomayer, her favorite make-up artist.
I’m kicking off my Beauty of the Week series again, and I want to introduce you to an extraordinary woman. Kerry Diamond is the author of one of my favorite books, “A Beautiful Life” written about celebrity make-up artist Kevyn Aucoin. His untimely death was such a tragedy but his good friends never forgot him, and Kerry really made sure she captured his essence throughout this amazing and incredibly well-written read. But not only is Kerry a gifted author, she’s the current Vice President of Lancome Public Relations. Before that, from 2001-2005 she was the beauty director of Harpars Bazaar Magazine, and before that she was the beauty director of WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) as well as the founder and editor of WWD Beauty Biz. Can we say POWER WOMAN! I’m honored that Kerry took the time out of her very busy schedule to answer my Beauty of the Week questions. Thank you so much! Oh and she’s also providing Beauty Logic with our biggest giveaway yet. You can win a few of Kerry's Favorite Lancome Items right here (worth over $500).
So Kerry, What’s your beauty regimen?
I’ve had a skincare regimen since I was 13 when I used Noxema and I think it’s paid off. For the a.m., I splash my face with water, then apply Lancome Collaser-5X Serum —my absolute favorite—and moisturizer. I change my moisturizer from time to time so I can try new things in our line. Right now, I’m loving High Resolution Refill 3X day cream. It will be out soon! I also apply eye cream. I must have about a dozen in my bathroom. Rénergie R.A.R.E is my current fave . Then I apply sunscreen. Lancôme sells one in Europe that I stock up on every time I go overseas because it’s super light and has a high SPF. At night, I remove my eye makeup with Bi-Facil then I cleanse with Secret de Vie Cleanser . It’s pricey, but it’s great. I don’t like soapy cleanser. Soap really does strip your skin, which is not good if you have dry skin—but not all creamy cleansers feel like they’re getting your skin clean. This one does the trick. Then Collaser-5X again and Secret de Vie night cream, which I’m road-testing. It comes out in March. If I have any blemishes, I dot on some Proactiv.
What makeup do you use?
Concealer, cream blush, translucent face powder, under-eye powder, powder blush, eyebrow pencil, liquid eyeliner, mascara and then a lip product, either a lipstick or a Juicy Tube! Everything is Lancôme, except for one thing. (I know I work for Lancome, but we really do have amazing products!) The non-Lancôme product is Laura Mercier’s under-eye brightening powder. It’s great if your concealer tends to sit in the fine lines under your eyes. I change products around a lot each morning because I like to use different things from our line and try different shades, but the one constant is my blush brush. It’s Lancôme Brush No. 7 and it has a flat top, unlike a traditional blush brush, so you can blend as you apply. If you spend money on one good brush, that’s the one to get. It’s brilliant.
What beauty product can’t you live without?
To be honest, I’ve had so many favorite beauty products discontinued that I don’t get too attached any more! It happens to me now and it happened all the time when I was an editor. At Bazaar, I used to get letters from women devastated that their favorite perfume or lipstick had been discontinued. There are so many great products out there, try something different! It’s a waste of time getting in a beauty rut. This is a boring answer to the question, but I’d say Le Crayon Poudre Eyebrow Pencil in taupe. It’s so perfect in so many ways, from the shade to the texture to the bristle brush at the end of the pencil.
What beauty advice can you give us?
If you’re young, DON’T TWEEZE YOUR EYEBROWS! So many women over-tweezed when they were in their teens (like me) and that hair DOES NOT GROW BACK. I know it’s hard not to tweeze, but use restraint. Look at the eyebrows on women like Arlenis or Natalia Vodianova. They did not go Tweezerman crazy. Next, don’t drink soda if you can avoid it. I honestly think people who skip soda have better skin. Lastly, if you have curly hair, learn how to deal with it. I wasted so much money on curl creams and other products that do nothing. A few years ago, I figured out that a large-barrel curling iron works wonders! Beauty blogs are a great place to get advice about dealing with your hair. People can tell you what they’ve tried and what really works.
What’s the best advice someone ever gave you?
This isn’t something anyone told me, but rather something I learned working for Glenda Bailey, the editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar. Always follow your instinct! Whenever I neglected to do that, or second-guessed myself or didn’t listen to my gut, something would go wrong. Trust yourself!
Thanks Kerry!!!!

Food for Beauty!
It took me a long time to learn how to eat better. Growing up Dominican, I was surrounded by delicious but very fattening foods lacking in nutritional value. But then I started looking at my mother and realized that she looked incredibly young for someone who was close to sixty. So my diet began to change, and in addition to using amazing topical products on my skin and hair, I also began eating certain foods for their beauty and nutritional value. So here are some foods that I eat that will keep you beautiful: You can find all of these at Whole Foods.
1) Green Tea-loaded with antioxidants, Mr. DE and I make sure we have our morning talk before work, while drinking a huge cup of this. (Mr. DE is just as vain as I am.) lol
2) For Great Skin- Alaska Salmon “Dr. Nicholas Perricone author of the book “The Wrinkle Cure” claims that “the special essential fatty acids and antioxidants in salmon give skin a remarkable suppleness, radiance and youthful glow.” I agree. I eat salmon and see the benefits.
3) For longer hair-eat foods rich in sulfur and protein like eggs, yogurt and even meat-(I grill my chicken breast on the George Foreman!). Also foods rich in silica and iron like salads will increase hair growth as well. One of my close friends is an Indian Goddess, and she swears that turmeric helps her hair grow.
4) Fruits & Vegetables. When I go to the Dominican Republic and see my ninety year old, white as snow Great Aunt, looking as if she’s fifty, I had to ask her, what’s her secret? She says fruits! That’s all she eats. After that conversation, I began incorporating fruit in my diet a lot more. For breakfast, I try to eat a huge bowl of fruits, and if I don’t eat vegetables in the day, I have a greens shake.
5) No Stress-I know this isn’t a food, but I just wanted to mention that stress can wreak serious havoc on your beauty. Mally Roncal said something very powerful to me, “If it doesn’t matter in 5 years from now, then it just doesn’t matter. Worrying gives you wrinkles!” So don’t stress yourself out. Eat right, and Enjoy being beautiful.
Do you eat anything for beauty?

Mr. DE Rec Protect and Correct!
Mr. DE takes incredibly good care of himself and one thing that he never neglects is his skin-care. Now Mr. DE hails from the Caribbean, and he’s blessed with gorgeous golden skin but occasionally a breakout will haunt him and, he’ll get left with those dreaded hyper pigmentation stains (I hate those!). For the last five weeks, I’ve had him testing DDF Protect and Correct moisturizer and he highly recommends it! He says that when he uses this thick cream, his skin is moisturized but not greasy at all (Mr. DE also suffers from oily skin) and since using this he notices the marks on his face have diminished dramatically (it contains something called micro-radiance complex to help even out skin tone and SPF15). This is a Mr. DE highly recommended product!
Have you tried this product?

Hydrate Your Skin!
Your skin is your most important asset-especially the skin on your face. I remember when I interviewed Actress Michelle Rodriguez (you can read that here) and she stated that she was more concerned with the health of her skin, than having to cover it up with make-up. That's very good advice. The least make-up I need to wear the better, so most of my skin-care products are loaded with highly-effective and proven ingredients that don't irritate my skin and keep it in tip-top shape. Anyway, with that being said, my latest face wash is Avalon Organics Hydrating Cleansing Milk.
One thing I really hate is when I wash my skin, and it’s dry and tight afterward. This cleansing milk is loaded with nourishing and natural Borage and Flax oil (I take both in supplement form) and it leaves my skin very soft and silky with no tightness at all. Plus it contains a stabilized form of potent antioxidant Vitamin C called Magnesium Ascorbal Phosphate that penetrates my skin cells and will keep me looking 21 forever :-)
What's your favorite face wash?
Do you use Avalon Organics?
How was your Weekend?
This week is Giveaway week, where we're going to feature a new giveaway every day staring tomorrow, (tomorrow's giveaway will be a whole new nail polish collection). Also, we'll also be having BeautyLogic's biggest Giveaway EVER so stay tuned!!!!!

The Power Of Friendships
Yesterday I got into a big fight with Mr. De. We both said things we didn’t mean and he left our apartment in a huff and I stayed home livid. After about five minutes, I called one of my close friends, and by the end of the conversation, we were both in tears laughing. She was telling me funny stories and when I hung up the phone, my anger had completely subsided, and I was in a great mood. At that moment, I realized how important friendships are. It’s amazing the power of a good friend. I was furious yesterday and my friend did everything in her power to make me feel better, and words can’t express how much I appreciate it. Friends are the best ingredient in this recipe we call life. Don't you agree?
Here are some famous friends:
Gayle and Oprah
Drew and Cameron Diaz
Jlo and Leah Reminni
Not so Famous-Me and my homegirl Raven (another aspiring reporter)
Do you value friendships?
Tell me a little about your friends?
Have a great weekend loves!

Dominican Salon Review # 5-Elia Beauty Salon
In 2006 Latina magazine voted Elia Beauty salon to be the best Dominican Salon in the United States . As a Dominicana, I was curious to go over there, and when I found out that my buddy lived a few blocks away, I made sure to make the trip. I’m happy to say that I did.
Interior: The salon itself is very pretty. They have these really beautiful chandeliers on top with burgundy walls. There are 5 hair-do stations
3 hair washing stations,
and 6 hair dryers stations.
Customer Service.
When I walked in, I was immediately greeted with a smile by one of the hairstylist who asked me what I wanted. I advised her I wanted a wash/set and she asked me to fill out a “Check in Sheet” The sheet asks basic questions like your name, reason for coming, how your hair/scalp is and how would you like your hair styled. I thought that was incredibly interesting. Then because I was a new customer, I was told I should fill out a customer questionnaire because they wanted to evaluate my hair. I liked that! The ladies then offered me some coffee and some poland spring water. How nice was that. I noticed that the salon clientele was a great mix of people, from Caucasians, African Americans and Asians. Upon looking at the walls, I notice that every single person styling hair in this salon had a license. I was pleased. Many Dominican salons do not have many licensed hairstylist working there. I then met Elia, who is the owner. This woman is so friendly to the customers. She seemed to know everyone’s name. She then evaluated my hair and even my hair products. It was then that I realized that she was incredibly knowledgeable about hair and the ingredients in the products.
Quality of products: I was in shock at how many really good and high-end products this salon offers. They had products like Frederick Fekkai, Phyto, Chi, Ojun, Biolage Luna, but they also do offer Dominican products.
Hair: My hair wash was very relaxing. The woman that washed my hair was thorough. She massaged my scalp, and I was in heaven. She then put my hair in curlers and gave me ear covers wrapped in tissue paper (for sanitary purposes). Love love love it! I showed them a picture of how I wanted my hair done and Rocio (the hairstylist) assured me she would do it exactly the way I wanted it. After drying for around 60 minutes, I was led to Rocio, who immediately removed the curlers and began lightly blow drying my hair, while curling my hair with her fingers and pins. She took her time with my hair, and then when she was done curling it with her fingers, she asked me to sit under the dryer for 5 more minutes. After I did that, she took the curls out, told me to wiggle my hair, and voila! It came out exactly like I wanted it. Full of body and with a nice wave to the front. I was super happy! I also observed another girl getting her hair done. Her hair was probably Texture 3b, and it really looked superb. She was from the Bronx , but comes to Elias to get her hair done.
Here’s my Hair
Pricing: The pricing is a little high here. I paid $30.00 for mine but I’ll be honest, I loved loved loved my hair and think it was totally worth it.
Cons: Without a doubt, this salon needs more hair wash stations. Three is not so great (what happens when it gets busy) and the price was a little more than what I’m used to in Dominican Salons.
After I got my hair done, I spoke to Elia and asked her a few questions. Many of my friend are non-relaxed beauties, and I wanted to make sure that this salon was fully equipped in dealing with them. She said that they dealt with all types of hair and had no problems with that.
On a scale from 1-5, this salon gets a solid 4.5. The customer service, the interior, and my hair were all fabulous!
Here's a plus! If you go to Elia’s and say you came from BeautyLogic, they will give you a free deep mask which retails for $15.00.

Jaqua Raspberry Buttercream Frosting Hand Creme
Did you guys know that the skin on your hand ages eight times faster than the skin on your face? Now, I loved my Sex & the City, but did you ever notice my girl Carrie’s hands. They looked a little grandma-ish. Because I want to prevent that, I make sure to keep my hands moisturized all the time, especially since in my business, I’m shaking hands with people all day. I am loving Jaqua’s Rasberry Buttercream Frosting Hand crème packets. I love the convenience of these and the fact that this smells so freaking delicious, just like fruity rasberry, you want to eat it!!!!!! After using this, my hands are so incredibly soft, and they smell like heaven. I love this!

Massage with Y-Y
When Mr. DE comes home from a tired day of work, I sometimes like to indulge him in a massage. For a while growing up, I thought I would become a massage therapist because I loved giving massages. From the time I was 10, massages fascinated me and I would read voraciously about the correct techniques, the acupressure points, and the body so I could become an expert at it. I also did it, because my Abuelo (Grandfather) had Parkinson’s disease and the only time he ever felt better from his chronic leg shaking was when I would massage his legs. I would spend hours massaging them while he talked about Dominican Republic’s history and his growing up under the dictatorship of Trujillo (one of the worst demagogues in history.) By the time I was 18, I was known in my family as a self-taught massage expert and I planned to enroll in the Swedish Institute for Massage Therapy, but then my grandpa died, and I sunk in a deep depression and no longer felt the urge to give massages. After meeting Mr. DE though, the urge to massage and heal came back again, because he suffers from chronic shoulder pain. So one day after his pain became unbearable, I began using my hands on him, and like magic, the pain left him. Now I think a secret to a great massage is a great massage cream. I hate creams that leave the skin greasy or that don’t lubricate enough. My favorite massage cream and the one Mr. DE loves is Y-Y's 1000 Cranes Massage and Body Cream.
This has such a refreshing fragrance of peppermint, and spearmint and it contains some really hydrating skin ingredients like Soy, Jojoba and something new I’d never heard of , African Baobab Oil. While massaging Mr. De with this, it offers an incredible amount of moisture but after I’m done, I can wipe him off with a towel and his skin is not left greasy or with any oily residue. I really like this and 50% of this products proceeds go to organizations helping victims of spinal stroke.

Sexy Natural Lips
Hey guys, I’m back. I’ve missed you. I can’t imagine what life was like without the internet. This past week was driving me crazy. Last week I actually stayed 3 hours late at work every night so I could use the internet. Ahh but now my good old IBM is back in my loving hands. I've been kissing her more than Mr. DE. I’ll never ever mistreat her again!
Let’s get back to beauty because I’ve been dying to tell you hot mammas about these phenomenal lip glosses by Aubrey Organics. I’ve already told you guys about my obsession with Aubrey’s hair care. Their honeysuckle conditioner makes my hair gleam! Anyway, I’ve really loving their new Natural Lip glosses.
First of all the ingredients are 50% pure and organic, and their gloss base is castor seed and coconut oil (you know how much I love coconut oil) and they use natural colorants like caramel, beet, and carrot extract. How amazing is that! My fave color is the Ruby Frost (although they have 8 shades). It’s a gorgeous light, sheer, incredibly glossy red, and when I use this my lips feel so incredibly moist and hydrated but not sticky (no need at all to use chapstick before applying!) . I love this!

My computer crashed guys. I am sitting in the NYC public library writing this. I just took it to get fixed so no new post for a few days. I'll miss you :-(
But, I have some great post coming along like a new Dominican salon, some new nail polishes, pedicure set, lip glosses, and a new hair post.
I'll be back soon. By the way, does anyone know how I can get a great deal on a macbookpro? I want to start editing some of my reporting stuff.
Hugs,
DE
