Besides talking about Beauty products, the purpose of my blog is to empower women. I feel that instead of being positive towards each other, sometimes women can be incredibly competitive, and not encouraging. I hope that you’ll all share your wonderful experiences here or even with me personally so we can all praise each other.
Yesterday I had a negative experience with someone whom I know is my friend, but I guess she was having a bad day. My friend and I went to dinner and she had asked me if I ever felt bad that I had left my pretty lucrative gig in finance to live in virtual poverty as an aspiring reporter. She kept talking about there was no way I could be happy with how broke I was and how I virtually lived on peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches (which is not true at all, one thing I know how to do is cook delish foods on a budget). For about 5 minutes I allowed her to keep shunning my decisions, and keep telling me that I was a broke dreamer, etc, and then finally when she saw that she wasn’t eliciting a response from me, she stopped, and then I finally answered her. It was interesting because I wasn’t angry at her, but sadder. I realized that she wasn’t a risk taker, and I also realized that although she did have a great paying job, she was miserable and fearful. I told her that after hearing her chastise me, I knew more than ever that my decision to leave my great paying, crappy job to pursue something that I absolutely loved was the best thing I’d ever done. Yes I’m broke (but I also grew up broke and being a little broke never killed anyone) but I’m happy. I’m happy because I know that this dream will come true soon, and although the little jobs that I pursue now to make money aren’t as great paying as my old finance gigs, I’m at peace. I remember when I worked in Finance, and how miserable I felt every morning having to go to that job. I hated it! Now I wake up in absolute harmony! And although there have been a lot of naysayers, I never listen. I keep dreaming, and I hope you guys will too. One of my favorite authors Paulo Coelho has an amazing quote that is my signature on my e-mail. “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve; the fear of failure’ and here’s another quote I love “It is never too late to be who you could have been”. Please remember that, and pursue your dreams!

OMG...I admire you for taking that risk!...Keep on doing what you're doing! I've been wanting to do something myself for the longest but, unlike you, I keep letting fear hold me back... : ( I hope I work up that nerve to just go for it like you've done!...Much success to you girl!...
If you are happy don't let other's NEGATIVITY get in your way of what makes you smile! If she/he is a true friend they will respect your decision and bring you love, peace, and happiness!

Ugh! You have read my mind! I work at an Investment Bank and yes it's a good job with a good company and yes it pays the bills but I'am utterly unhappy, every morning I wake up wishing I hadn't because I know that I have to get up and go to a job I hate. I want to leave and do what I want to do ( What I love to do) but many people are telling me not to because of the economy and the decrease in pay but my happiness and wellbeing are far more important than this job. I have already submitted my resume and hope to hear something soon! Wish me luck! and don't worry hun you WILL prove them all wrong! :)
i'm with you girl, we gotta take risks to do what we love...you're awesome for rising above negativity, it's funny how even our closest friends can come down on us sometimes
BRAVO!!! love this DE...I am so glad that you didn't get mad and started to talk back to your friend...you let her just say it and when you didn't respond that probably made her feel worse.
I also dont like naysayers...one of my friends is doing a similar move at the moment..she wants to be a healthy counselor/life coach and will be leaving her accounting job at the end of the year and I believe in her dream 100% and I know it will be rough (but what risk isn't!?!?!) but she will do great...but she's told me some of her friends have told her she's crazy for doing that and leaving her job. The way I see it...go do you if it happens to not work out you can always go back to what you were doing before.

hi DE, Aren't you glad you left finance to pursue your dreams? The recession hit the finance sector really hard but it sounds to me like you were one step ahead of the game. Actually two steps because you didn't let your friend's fears faze you.
Its hard to do what you love when what you love isnt the most lucrative job out there (wouldnt it be great to love rocket science?). You have to do what makes you happy. If money makes you happy, work a job that pays alot even if you dont like it. But if you want to do what you love, go for it no matter what!
Don't ever let anyone tell you that your dreams don't come true. I am so proud of you for taking the risk. I had to leave law school and thought my world was over. Although my cash flow is nowhere near where I need it to be, but I can tell you this, I have never been happier in my life. There is something so powerful when you know that you are accomplishing your dreams. Keep up the great work, you have accomplished so much toward your dream in so little time. There is so much in store for you.

Honey, I know what you mean. I have two reasons why this post touched me. The first is the fact that I know how much pressure there is to take and stay in the job with the money. After university I decided to work for the federal government, while my classmates went to work in highly lucrative positions with oil companies or investment firms; they criticized my choice. I took a 15K pay cut to work for the federal government, but I knew it was right for me. Now we are in a recession and I have a fair bit of job security that my classmates can only hope for. It's funny: once you choose to be true to yourself and make choice based on your own wants and desires, everything else eventually falls into place.
The second comment has to do with friends. I recently had an experience with a friend who is going through a situation and who greeted my similar situation with discouragement. You see the results of our similar situations are contradictory, where she ended up unhappy. Very few people can find it in their heart to be happy for you if they are not happy with themselves--if they do, then those are the people who love you.
Great post! I wish someday I can find something I love as much as you. Right now I'm studying financing and I am not sure yet if I'll wake up dreading every morning. I already dread it where I intern but who knows. It could just be the other workers.
My bf always tells me he hates people who critisize and they need to learn to accept other peoples decisions. I'm glad you told your friend what you did. And you seem like a very smart determined person
I know I'm late, but what a great post! I have had many ppl tell me similar things...there isn't any money in our field (journalism), but it's what we love! I'd rather be happy and broke than miserable with money.

AMEN! I too left a pretty solid to pursue my dreams of becoming a makeup artist or rather to be my own boss...and build my dreams. So i totally relate! I am so glad I read this post today. I'm constantly having people tell me why don't you just try to get a regular full time job. Stop interning and temping at all these magazines, you need stability we're in a recession. Though I see where they are all coming from, at the same time I'm still young and still in a position where I can go after my dreams, so why not continue pursuing them? And like you said yes I'm broke but being broke a little longer is not the end of the world. I truly admire and respect that you left your high paying finance job to go after what you really love doing. You will definitely land your dream job. There's no doubt it my mind. I really needed to read this today. : )
