Therapy Thursday: Don't Settle When It Comes To Your Life.

Hey loves, how's your Thursday starting. You know today is Coffee day. You can get yourself a free cup in all of these places. But as for me, since I now only drink one cup a day, I think I'm good with my cup of Cafe Bustelo. Can I offer you some? How do you take it? I like mine black with 3 tablespoons of sugar. You too? Great! lol

Today let's talk about Not Settling When It Comes To Your Life.  I've seen it way too many times with so many unhappy people. People who gave up because they didn't see things happening with their dreams, and now they have settled and are miserable, stuck in dead-end jobs, wishing they had pursued their goals. In life, there will be so many people that will constantly tell you NO, there will be so many people that will  try to stop you from getting to where you belong, and deter you from following your dreams but don't listen. Find your way! You can do it. If I had listened to people, I would have settled a long time ago. I'd still be in finance, behind a desk, depressed, looking at the clock every second hoping it was  closer to 5 so I could run out.  Yea the money was great, but guess what, my mental state was horrible. Life is not about being complacent or settling.  Life is about being happy, and getting what you want out of it, and not listening to people when they say NO to you. You have one life to live, remember that! Don't give me that excuse "Well Milly, I can't do this, I've already been rejected a million times." Who cares? Rejection has happened to the most successful people millions of times, but the difference between successful people and unsuccessful people, is that successful people found a way! They never gave up. That"s the only difference.  When it comes to what you want out of life, if you truly want it believe me, your mind will find ways to get it and you will be successful. It may take time, but remember Rome wasn't built in a day.  Here's a small example of something that recently happened to me where I found a way, this is also how I try to approach every situation in life.

Essie Winter 2011 Cocktail Bling Collection

Having heard Essie's new Winter collection was called Cocktail Bling I was so super excited. I thought for sure there would be some sexy glitter in the shades, but alas, I was wrong. The collection is described as " inspired by the precious stones and metals that we love to accessorize ourselves with at holiday cocktail parties-think Rubies, Sapphires and Emeralds. "

Although there was no glitter, I did actually like the collection because all the colors are very wearable. (Not everyone loves glitter as much as I do.) There are six shades in the collection, I was sent four to test out. Here are the shades, click on pic to enlarge:

Essie-Cocktail Bling- Essie describes it as a Pale Blue Chalcedony Cabochon. To simplify, I say it looks like a pretty bluish gray.

Essie School of Hard Knocks-Essie calls it a midnight Malachite. To me, it's a gorgeous teal.

Essie Bangle Jangle-Lavender Amethyst-I was shocked a lavender was included in the winter collection.

Essie Size Matters-(what a funny name) a Blazing Hot Ruby Red-You girls know how much I love red polishes.

These shades were the usual great Essie quality,  (you could get away with one coat with a few of these). They are very wearable for everyday (even the green!). But honestly if you're going to name a collection "Cocktail Bling" give me some Bling!  I wanted glitter in this collection!

What are your thoughts on this collection?

Do you love it?

Milly

Random: Closet Organization for the Fall!

Growing up, mommy would often yell at me because of how disorganized I was. When I came home, I would just throw my clothes on the bed. When I needed to sleep, I would move the clothes over on the other side. I'd leave books and papers thrown everywhere.  I could never find anything. lol.    Fast forward to about six months ago, and all of a sudden I realized being disorganized was making me waste so much time and money. I could never find anything and looking for things would take me hours. So that day, I began organizing my house and papers like never before and I have found that being organized just makes life so much easier.   This week I'm trying to get my closets ready for fall and organize them a lot better. Since organization is kind of difficult for me, I didn't really know where to start. Step in Barbara Reich, an organization expert. She gave me some tips, and I'm sharing them with you Beautylogic readers-just in case you're trying to get super organized like me.

Beauty Secrets from the Latina Magazine 15th Anniversary Celebration

Hey guys,

So yesterday I went to the Latina Magazine 15th anniversary celebration. Although I could only cover the red carpet (my babysitter told me I had to be home by 9) I was able to talk to some amazing Latinas in the media and get some of their beauty secrets. I was really excited to talk to all of these women who are making their dreams come true.

So first up, Natalie Morales (True story: I interned at NBC when I left finance to pursue broadcast. ). Having worked next to her before, I can honestly say she is one of the nicest people in television. Anyway, her must have beauty item is under eye treatments. She says she sleeps very little and under eye treatments are essential! She loves  L'oreal's Micropulse Eye Treatment  for the under eye area. Although  since I'm a beauty blogger, I had to recommend she try Nuance Salma Hayek  Wrinkle Eye Serum (which I'm reviewing this week.)

Then we met friend to the blog Kat De Luna. I adore this feisty Dominicana. She's always a lot of fun. I asked her what her beauty secret was, she said she loves loves "Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes" but then she said her true beauty secret is waking up with the Latina attitude and saying "I'm up, I may have bags under my eyes, and may look a mess but I'm still going to rock." I love that!

Then I met Rosci Diaz. Rosci had the most gorgeous Stella McCartney dress on! I need it in my life.
Her beauty secret is just drinking water and she regularly uses Neutrogena Makeup Removing Wipes. She said she drinks so much water, and she really believes it's the reason her skin is so clear. As someone who was extremely close to her, I will say she has a flawless complexion.

Then I met  Angie Martinez. If you live in NYC, you know the name Angie Martinez very well. She's the dj  for radio station, Hot 97. Meeting her was quite possibly the highlight of my night.  Growing up, I really saw myself in her. I was a young Latina girl who loved my Latin music but remember that I grew up in Jamaica Queens (basically hip hop land) so I loved hip hop and r&b too.  I truly admire Angie and her longevity in the business and the fact that I really have never heard her say bad stuff about anyone in all the years I've been listening to her. I love that she has kept her integrity.  Anyway, I gave her my card, hopefully we can feature her in our Entrepemom feature.
In person, Angie is  flawless. Pics do not do this woman justice.  Anyway, her beauty secret is again, Neutrogena Wipes. She loves them! ( I may have to pick up these wipes, both Rosci and Angie swear by them and they both had really flawless skin!)

Then we also saw Julissa Bermudez. Julissa has such gorge skin, and an amazing booty (Jlo and Kim Kardashian might be jealous). I asked her the secret to both the flawless skin, and the perfect butt. lol

She said she is very intense when it comes to her beauty regimen. No sleeping with makeup on. She cleanses her face really well at night. She loves  Origins face moisturizer, with Mimosa. She always wears eye cream and she gives herself facials in the shower.  The secret to her amazing booty is squats every night....with heels! PS: Julissa has the eyebrows I dream of.

Although I couldn't stay long (babysitter wasn't playing) I'd say meeting these women was such an inspiration to me, because all of them are making their dreams come true.

I'm inspired by all of them, and I hope you are too.

Alright, I'm off  to go do squats with heels now.

Outfit of the Day & Weekend Updates & Cuba Restaurant Review & Glozell

Hey loves, how was your weekend. Mine was pretty good, although I lost my camera in a NYC cab. I was so upset about it for a few minutes. I had a lot of pics in there that I hadn't downloaded yet, pics of my family, funny and ugly pics of me, but you can't cry over spilled milk. I've contacted the cab people and hope they'll find it. Otherwise my weekend was great. Mr. Milly has been away on business for a while so we hadn't done a date night in a few weeks. So we headed out yesterday for a night on the town. Here's the outfit I had on.

Hair done by Elia Salon (Get the beautylogic special)
Michael Kors Dress (Marshalls)
Mr. Milly didn't take a pic of my shoes but they were Christian Siriano Payless collection. Click here
Bag-H&M
Necklace -Kara (42nd street store)

Anyway we headed out for date night at this restaurant Cuba that we love love love! I always advise couples to def make time for date nights. It's so important. Now date night doesn't have to be going out. Not true at all. Some of the best date nights Mr. Milly and I had were at home with a home cooked meal, candles, great music, and sexy lingerie! LOL, But anyway last night we headed to Cuba restaurant, after getting out of the cab, I realized Holy Crap, I left my camera there!! But after about 30 minutes, I got over it and enjoyed the delish meal at Cuba.
If you go, I highly rec the Shrimp Enchiladas. So yummy

It was delish.
Then after we went dancing, and then headed home.
Fun Date Night.
Anyway, I wanted you guys to watch this video if possible.
My brother always sends me funny youtubes and he sent me vids of this woman Glozell.
I've been watching her videos, and she is beyond hilarious.
She has an amazing following on youtube, over 300,000 subscribers.
Now this video I'm showing you isn't one of her funny ones.
It's the video o of how and why she started doing youtubes.
It's so inspiring.
The message is  sometimes when you think something is the worst thing for you, it could actually be the best thing.
Enjoy it!

Tonight I am covering the Latina Magazine 15th Anniversary Red Carpet. I'm so excited. I was initially not invited to cover it, but I got myself in. When someone tells you that you can't do something, don't listen to them. Find your way in when it comes to anything in your life.

Anyway, I'll report back tomorrow.

Hugs,

Milly

Lorac Ooh La Lace Palette =GORGEOUS!

I've said it before and I will say it again, Lorac makes some of the best eyes hadows in the business. The Lorac Tantalizer Palette was my summer staple, and I think my Lorac's new Ooh La Lace Palette will be my winter staple. I love this palette for a few reasons. 1)First of all  the palette itself is so darn pretty. Look at it covered in Lace. Love it!

Also, the palette contains six gorgeous baked & matte eye shadows that can easily be worn day and night. I have used this palette for a day time with girlfriends, then whipped it out to create a smokey eye for a hot date night with Mr. Milly. It's so gorgeous, and as usual with Lorac the color payoff is excellent, I mean excellent, and the colors are so gorge. If you are a neutral eye lover like me, this is great for you, and if you like to sexy your eye at night  and create a smokey look, this is perfect.
Here are swatches:

From Left to Right
Lust-gorgeous cream shimmer
Smoulder_Matte Grey
Risque -Matte Black
Stunner-Light pink Bronze With Shimmer
Knockout-Bronze shimmer
Racy-Matte Brown

And a great thing about Lorac palettes. They DO NOT contain: parabens, phthalates, dyes or fragrances.

What are your thoughts on this palette?

Mally Beauty's Effortless Airbrush Eyeshadow

Mally Beauty's new Effortless Airbrush Eyeshadows  will be availalable on QVC September 23, 2011, but we've got  deets here. The new shadows come in four gorgeous shades Champagne, Sugarplum, Brightening Brown, and Lush Forest. Each shade contains a very high quality blush (pictured above) that's great for application and blending into that crease. Love it! The shadows definitely contain  shimmer. These are extremely pigmented, easily blendable,  and with very minimal fall out.  Although Mally says these are not really a cream, and not really a powder, I'd say they were definitly more of a powder,  I have worn this eyeshadow for the last few days, and even after hours of wear, this eyeshadow is still going strong. Here are some swatches:
From Left to Right: Champagne, Brightening Brown, Lush Forest, Sugarplum

Champagne-a sparkling golden beige. Perfect as a highlighter or inner corners.
Brightening Brown-a gorgeous deep copper brown with sparkles. So beautiful for brown eyed gals
Lush Forest-A beautiful forest green with sparkles
Sugarplum-a bright mid sparkly purple-so pretty.

Here's a look created with all 4 colors:

Champagne used in inner corners
Brightening brown on lid and undereye
Sugarplum on crease and under eye
Lush Forest on Outer V

All in all I adore these highly pigmented and long-lasting shadows.
They will be available September 23 for $29.00 each which will include that amazing brush.

What are your thoughts on these shades?
Do you think you will be purchasing?

Hugs,

Milly

Full Disclose:  Eyeshadows provided by Mally Beauty Pr For review but look how gorgeous those shadows are!!!

LASH DIP: MY EXPERIENCE

So two weeks ago, I was provided with Lash Dip Service.   If you're wondering, what the heck is Lash Dip, well it's a solution meant to replace the need for traditional mascara.  Lash Dip produces the same finish as mascara, but provides a semi-permanent result. Lash Dip coats & colors each lash w/ a deep black finish. The coating, or "Dip", is waterproof, creates a dark black finish on lashes, curves & holds & sets lashes, separates, increases lash volume & extends length.

Naked Lashes

Now the procedure took about an hour and I fell asleep while it was being done, that's how comfortable I was. I woke up an hour later so relaxed and with amazing looking lashes. Now not only did she apply the  lash dip, but she also applied their newest innovation which is called feather inserts. The lashdip and feather inserts are not applied to the natural skin but to the lashes themselves so I felt pretty much nothing as she was applying. Now unlike lash extensions, LashDip inserts are designed to use in small amounts only about 10-20 pieces, and they are designed to blend into the natural lashline, then finishing overall with Lashdip coating. Now this procedure last through the lifecycle of ones lashes but as your natural lashes grow out, they produce roots, so touch up application is necessary, about every 3-6 weeks. Also for the first 24 hours you are not supposed to get your new lash dip wet.  Here's the Lashdip:

Anyway, I actually really like this service, I felt no irritation while applying, the only thing you feel is  cool air for a few seconds, but that's it. And the results were pretty amazing. I loved that you can pretty much go on with every day activities after about 24 hours. These are even safe to use in water (except the first 24 hours). However, here are some cons: You're not supposed to rub your eyes when you get this service. I am the Queen Eye Rubber. I rub my eyes all the time so that was hard. Also, when you shed your lashes naturally, you don't really notice it, but when you have the lashdip, you can really see when they shed, because they are now coated with the black finish, so that was a little weird. And although I did love the finish, maybe it's because I actually enjoy applying mascara, that after a while, I was dying to put mascara on my eyes (although you can't when you have this procedure). This is safe for sensitive eyes and contact wearers. It cost $200.00 -$250.00 and the touch up appointment is included in this amount. Lash dip will usually last  six weeks.

Are you thinking about lash dip?

What are your thoughts?

Salma Hayek Do It Yourself Face Mask

As I told you girls before, two weeks ago, myself and a few other bloggers had lunch with Salma Hayek. Salma shared a great Do It Yourself Mask that she does, that I've done a few times since meeting her. Sitting next to this woman, I can say her skin is flawless, and she's 45. She looks amazing. I love that she still does Do It Yourself Beauty Recipes when in fact we all know Salma can afford to get the most expensive beauty treatments in the world. But Salma doesn't believe that beauty has to cost an arm and a leg. Anyway, here was the mask:

Simple

Honey,

Sugar,

Orange Juice.

Honey is a powerful humectant, sugar is a great exfoliator and the vitamin c in orange juice may help the skin.  Inexpensive, and Salma's skin was GORGEOUS!

Apply to your skin, and leave on for a few moments.

Don't I always tell you beauty doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Sofia Vergara Makeup and Beauty 63rd Annual Emmy Awards 2011

Modern Family is definitely one of my favorite shows. I think that's the only show that Mr. Milly and I can actually watch together (he despises reality shows and I live for them). CVS, Allure and Maybelline: Three Spring Runway Beauty Trends

Maybelline makeup artist head, Gabriel Almodovar and Milly

During Fashion Week,  I was invited to the Allure Beauty Breakfast with CVS and Maybelline, to talk three hot Spring Trends. For the Spring season, it's all about: Intense Lips and Brows, (So upset my brows just don’t grow!) 2) Sunny Skin and 3) Two-Toned Eyeshadow. CVS, Allure and Maybelline are teaching us how to incorporate these runway trends into our everyday life using drugstore products,  so let’s get started:

1st Trend: Intense Lips and Brows
Maybelline makeup artist Gabriel Almodovar demonstrating intense lips and brows.

During fashion week, makeup trends in shows such as Jason Wu,  Altuzarra, and Donna Karen were all about intense colored lips and bold brows. At the Altuzarra runway show they actually layered black eyeshadow on model's eyebrows to really intensify them-it almost looked cartoonish.  So here’s how you can get the bold lips, bold eye look using products all available at CVS. Gabriel Almodovar,  makeup artist for Maybelline suggest if you’re going to do these looks to make sure you maintain balance. You can definitely do strong lips and strong brows, but keep the eye makeup itself soft. To get the intense color, Gabriel says use Maybelline Color Sensational Coral Crush lipstick, which will give you that super intense lip color you’re looking for. Here's an interesting fact: lipstick sales this year have finally surpassed lipgloss sales. So lipsticks are making a huge comeback. Now to get an intense brow, Gabriel recommends using Maybelline’s Define a Brow. When it comes to defining the brows, Gabriel recommends drawing little short strokes to emulate the brow hair. Start at the end of the brow to create your tail (many woman's brows end prematurely) then go through the brow to darken it in short strokes.

2nd Trend-Sunny Skin

Tracy Reese Show
On the Spring runway shows, it was all about sunny skin. But not just putting the bronzer where you normally place it, over the cheekbone and over the nose, but actually applying the bronzer a little lower on the cheek, and then working orange and pink blush into the bronzer to create a sunny bronzed look. We saw this at Tracy Reese, Christian Siriano and Derek Lam. To recreate the look at home, Maybelline makeup artist Gabriel Almodovar says you can use two Maybelline Fit Me products; Fit Me Deep Bronzer and  Fit Me Deep Coral Blush.

Gabriel says in order to apply correctly, tilt head slightly back, make sure your hair is pulled back as well. Now start applying the bronzer beginning from hairline and going down to the cheek area. That way the bronzer is heavier at hairline then tapers off. Then begin to blend, although with this look the bronzer  doesn't have to be  too blended  because we'll be placing blush right over it. After applying bronzer, pick up Maybelline Fit me blush in Deep Coral and place it right where you applied bronzer and bring it up to the apple of the cheeks. Walaa You’re ready for the runway!

3rd Trend: Two-Toned Eyeshadow

Another popular beauty trend seen on the runway was two distinctive eyeshadow shades on the eyes. We're placing one specific color on lid, and once specific color on crease, not really blending the colors together.  Peter Som used lilac on lid and darker burgundy on crease. To create this look at home, use Maybelline Color Explosion Eye Studio Amethyst Ablazed.

Use the bottom color on lid but make sure you pack color on with your brush. You really want that lid color to show. Then go in with a pointy dome brush, and place darker color in crease, but don’t blend as much as you’re used to. We want to see the 2 distinct colors.  Then complete the look by using Maybelline Falsies. (My current favorite drugstore mascara.)

All in all these 3 looks have currently been the most popular on the runway.

All of these products can be found on www.cvs.com
Sign up for CVS Extra Beauty Club and when you spend $50.00 you'll get $5 bucks back.

Hope this helps,

Hugs,
Milly

Full disclosure: I have been compensated for writing this post and letting you know about the latest spring trends.

Obsessed with CND's Shellac Manicure

I can't believe it's taking me so long to review CND's Shellac. I am obsessed with this. If you don't know what the heck Shellac is, it's basically a manicure that is guaranteed to last two weeks. There is no damage to your nail by doing this. The nail polish smells like nothing, and as soon as you are finished with your manicure your nails are COMPLETELY DRY. As a woman who types all day, washes dishes, cooks, changes dirty diapers, and cleans the house, my manicures are usually screwed after two days. Not with this. Not only do my nails look amazing after doing all my chores (lol), but they are glossy, and gorgeous.

Am I the only person that screws up their manicure as soon as they leave the salon. I have no patience to dry. (I'm a New Yorker, impatience is in my blood. lol)  With Shellac your nails are dried immediately and there is no formadelyde, dpb or toluene in this.  There is no real big difference than when you get a normal manicure except every time they finish painting your nails, they put you under a uv lamp which dries the polish. I am obsessed with this. After two weeks, your nails still look glossy. The only maintenance is using an oil gel every day twice a day on your nails.

A two week manciure is the best! This link shows some places that offer Shellac in NYC, one place in Brooklyn offers it for $22.00 which is pretty sweet.

Hope you love it as much as I do.

Hugs,

Milly
