Oils 101-Camellia Oil For Hair Growth/Skin Care

This oil doesn't seem to be well-known in the United States. However, Camellia Oil is apparently  the beauty secret of the Japanese. It’s derived from the seeds of the Camellia Oleifera which mainly grow in Japan from Islands of Nagasaki Prefecture and Islands of Tokyo Prefecture.  It’s also known as tinseed oil. Camellia’s oleic acid concentration (oleic acid is amazing for the hair and skin) is 85%. That is very impressive, and is the highest concentration of any vegetable. oil. It’s also loaded with Vitamins A, B, C, E and Protein which are great vitamins for your hair and skin. According to this article written by Chyrene Pendleton ,Dr. Liau a professor Of Pathology at Columbia University says that “Camellia oil can increase hair growth making it fuller and healthier in just a few weeks even restoring color to white hair." According to the article Dr. Liau said that "Oleic acid cleans the scalp and hair follicles and allows oxygen and nutrients to penetrate freely and deeply. First as newly dividing cells at the base of the hair multiply, they force the cells above them upward helping them to promote the growth of hair.”
Many pregnant women I know swear by Camellia oil for prevention of stretch marks, and it’s moisturizing abilities.

Macadamia Oil For Hair & New Giveaway!

I have a few obsessions in life. Some of them are, my family, Mr. DE, reruns of The Golden Girls and Frasier, eye shadows, central park in the summer, and of course, my hair. She’s my pride, my joy, the other love of my life and I take insanely good care of her. Recently, I was given the opportunity to try a new hair product called Macadamia oil. As I’ve mentioned before, oils are amongst the most effective hair formulas. Seems like everyone’s agreeing with me. The new product Macadamia Oil is a mixture of Argan oil (which is the ingredient in Moroccan oil and one of the rarest oils in the world) but it also includes Macadamian Nut Oil which is an oil found in the South Pacific, and has a very high amount of oleic acid and actually mimics the natural oils in your hair. Oleic acid is one of the most nourishing ingredients for your hair.

I tried the Macadamia Healing Oil which is described as the “Queen Bee” of the products. (Please note this product contains silicones so if you don’t like silicones, this may not be for you.) I used it right after washing my hair, and right before blowdrying. The consistency of this product is almost like a hair serum so this product absorbed right in. As I began blowdrying, the shine was clearly evident, and when I finished, my hair was gleaming, and very full with super bounce. Something I noticed about this stuff is even after I slept over my parents house for a few days, and they don’t have silk pillows (so important for keeping the shine to your hair), my hair was still looking super fresh, and oh so brilliantly shiny.

What oils do you love?

You girls know I"m not greedy. I want to give you a chance to try this too. I'm giving away the Macadamia Healing Treatment Oil and the Macadamia Oil Deep Repair Masque to one lucky reader.

MOROCCANOIL

Hey guys, how was your weekend. New York City got hit with so much snow, it was ridiculous. By the time I left work Saturday night, there was at least six inches of snow on the ground. I tried endlessly to catch a taxi, but after a few minutes of begging taxi drivers to take me home, and them laughing at me, a New York city bus came to my rescue and I was home in 15 minutes. Ah the joy of New York City Transit.

Anyway, let’s talk beauty. Last week I went to a girlfriend’s party. For some reason the place was super hot, and after a night of dancing, spinning around, and just having a good time, my hair was a hot, sweaty, mess. So when I got home, I knew I had to do my hair the next day. You know DE can’t go out looking like she doesn’t care about herself. Read my post about that here. So the next morning, before I made breakfast, I woke up and decided to fix my crazy hair. I wanted to try a new product that I had heard so much about-MoroccanOil.

Photobucket

I know so many people that are obsessed with this stuff. They claim it’s saved their hair, their mama’s hair, their daddy’s hair (well, you get my drift). It has Argan oil in it, which I know is the beauty secret for Moroccan women and is an incredibly rare oil-hence the high price. The oil is loaded with a high amount of oleic acid which is a fatty acid that is great for your hair, but remember the product MoroccanOil also has silicones in it, (listed as the first few ingredients) so if you’re not into silicones, you won’t like this product.

Alright back to my hair venture. So after washing and conditioning my hair with my Giovanni and Aubrey products, I applied the MoroccanOil Hydrating Styling Crème all over it. It’s pretty thick stuff so I only used about a quarter size throughout my thick hair. Anyway, I turned on the hair dryer, and began blow drying. The first thing I noticed as I was drying was how insanely shiny my hair looked and how there was no static to it at all. Usually the blow dryer leaves my hair with a little static. After finishing drying hair, there was no denying it. My hair was shiny, not weighed down at all, full of bounce, and oh so gorgeous-very Pantene looking.

Do I like it? Sure do.

De's loving Mario Russo Miracle Styling Creme

Photobucket

So as you guys know, I’m addicted to TJ Maxx (well the one that just opened around my house.) I recently bought this Mario Russo Miracle Styling Crème for $3.99 (although it currently retails for $24.99.) All these amazing deals! Anyway, this stuff is fabulous. I applied it right before I started blow-drying my hair. It contains olive oil, aloe, and vitamin E three great ingredients for the hair. This is a pretty thick consistency, so you only need a small amount. After drying, I was left with super shiny, frizz free, and lustrous hair. I barely had cowlicks (which never happens when I blow dry my hair.) My hair looked absolutely beautiful!

Have you tried Mario Russo Miracle Styling Creme?

Are you addicted to TJ Maxx like me?

De's Indian Beauty =Amla Oil

I went to get my eyebrows done at my area indian beauty spot, and when I walked towards the cashier to pay, I noticed that she had started stacking massive indian hair products, so you know DE, had to grab a whole bunch. Many of my indian friends swear by Amla Oil so I picked up a bottle and grabbed some jasmine oil as well. I'm going to use the Amla oil as a hot treatment this weekend, and let you girlies know how it is. Also, I finally got my camera so I will do my hair tonic video this week.

She’s another hair fanatic like me, and she wanted me to let you guys know of this fantastic conditioner that she recently tried. It’s Earth Science’s Olive & Avocado Deep Conditioner Masque. She was in Whole Foods this weekend when she picked up one of their travel size packets for $1.99.

Photobucket

Leslie (that’s her name) said that this product leaves her thick curly curls soft, easy to get her comb through, and after her hair dries it’s gleaming with shine, and luster.
She loves it, and begged me to let you beautiful mamas know about it

Have you tried Earth Science?

I haven’t, and am going to grab a packet today.

DE Friend Rec: Amla Oil

A close Indian/Jamaican friend of mine has gorgeous thick long hair. Perfect in its luster, volume, and shine, I often get jealous staring at it. (Isn’t it funny how we often want what we don’t have!) She also has these shiny thick curls! Gosh I love her hair. You girlies know my secret for great hair-coconut oil. Well her secret is using Amla oil. She says that Amla oil is just as popular as coconut oil in India. In Ayurveda treatments (ancient Indian rituals) Amla oil is used on all of their hair products. They swear by its abilities to strengthen the hair, increase its growth, and make it shiny. I always say, the proof is in the pudding. My friend has a beautiful mane of hair that is full of shine and bounce-and she doesn’t even really take care of her hair that much but she never skips her morning application of Amla Oil. Have you used Amla oil? She gets hers from her indian grandmother but a product that contains both of our hair beauty secrets is Global Goddesses Coconut Amla Hair treatment.

Coconut Oil for Hair-The Proof

Photobucket

Running this site, I get a lot of e-mails. Some are nice, others are weird and some can be really negative. I got a mean e-mail around a week ago with someone spewing anger my direction. I don't like negativity so I'll just quote you some of the e-mail:

"Dear Mrs. DE,

I really don't like the fact that you always tout Coconut Oil for being a magical ingredient for hair. You give false hope to people who follow you in the hopes that their hair will transform itself."

The e-mail went on being insulting afterwards but we don't need all that on my blog. I try to be as positive and as encouraging as possible to my readers. But, I wanted to address something. I grew up in a Dominican family obsessed with hair. If you are familiar with Dominican people, we come in a variety of beautiful shades and hair textures. I have family members that have type 1 hair and others who have Type 4b hair. We are such a beautiful mix of people. I will say this though, we all used coconut oil, and our hair saw the benefits of it. If you don't believe me, then here is a scientific study that tested coconut oil with other oils and showed that coconut oil was really the only one that actually did benefit the hair:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12715094

I hope this helps and for that reader, it's not good to be so negative. Lighten up and smile, life is not that serious.

Hugs (even to the mean reader),

DE
