Mally Roncal & Me Q&A & Surprise Giveaway!

Photobucket

I’m a huge fan of celebrity make-up artist Mally Roncal (Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, etc etc). Not only do I absolutely love her make-up (looks so beautiful on tan skinned mommas) but she is seriously one of the most beautiful people (both inside and out) that I have ever met. Her energy is incredible. Literally, when she walks into a room everyone turns their head to stare at this beautiful Filipina goddess. I interviewed Mally before for my Beauty of the Week and I got a chance to catch up with her today for a few minutes. (I had another engagement so we couldn’t talk too long.) However, I was able to ask Mally a few questions before I ran off.

DE: “What’s your favorite product in your make-up line?”

Mally: “The City Chick Smokey Eye Hit is my favorite. All women should have a Smokey eye.”
DE: “Do you use this on Beyonce ?”
Mally: “Yes we use the Smokey Eye in Brownstone for Beyonce;”

DE: “What product has been in Mally’s make-up bag since she was little Mally?”

Mally: “Well, my Shu-Uemura eyelash curler was always in my bag. However, I now carry my own Mally eyecurler. I used a lot of products before and have perfected them in my line. “

DE: “What is Beyonce’s staple product?” (I don’t know why I keep asking about Beyonce.)

Mally: “Beyonce must have the Mally Perfect Pallette. It’s great for her when she travels because she can work with it herself.”

DE: “What product is NECESSARY for summer?”

Mally: “Bronzer is absolutely necessary. You should not be in the sun so it’s the best simulation for you. My line has one called Believable Bronzer that is fantastic.”

DE: “What woman's make-up do you want to do that you haven’t done before?”

Mally: I want to do every woman in America.

In honor of Mally ,we’re having a give away. The winner gets Mally’s favorite product which is The City Chick Smokey Eye in Beyonce’s favorite shade The Brownstone.

Beautiful Hair Doesn't Need To Cost an Arm and a Leg

Last week New York was suffering from severe hot and humid temperatures. I was also having a very stressful week (boyfriend trouble, work stuff) so there was no way in hell I was going to get my hair done. I’m embarrassed to say that I did some serious mistreatment to my hair. During the week, I must have used gel, hairspray and the blower every day. After the weather cooled and my week calmed down, I took a good look at my hair and began to feel incredibly guilty. It looked pretty bad; it’s amazing what a week of treating your hair like crap can do. I’ve expressed to you guys before how much I love to take care of my hair. So after a week of abusing her (yes I said “her”), it was time to give her a special treat. When I finally got around to going to the salon, I made sure to bring this:

The Giovanni Nutrafixx Hair Reconstructor for Damaged Hair.

Photobucket

This product describes itself as "deep repair for critically damaged hair."After they washed my hair with my Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat (a clarifying shampoo that really gets out the buildup of products) they then applied this powerful treatment all over my hair. This is a very thick cream with a very fresh light scent (essential oils).I sat under the dryer with this for around 10 min-allowing it to penetrate. The treatment contains soy protein (which I needed to strengthen my locks) and other nourishing hair ingredients including rosemary, nettle, and thyme. While my stylist was drying my hair, three girls crowded around me asking what products I used because my hair was so shiny and full of volume. Besides the fact that this product actually works, another great thing is the cost-only $5.99.! If you want strengthened ,healthy and shiny hair at an affordable price try this. Don’t believe me? Look at the pic of my hair in the post before this one titled "Previews for next week", and here's a pic of my good girlfriend's hair after I made her use this.
PhotobucketThis is a must have and I mean it!

Disclaimer: This is a protein treatment so I use a moisturizing conditioner afterwards. My rec is Aubrey Honeysuckle. Also on Vitcost.com this is less than $5.00

Word on the Street

I’m posting twice today because I may not be available tomorrow.

Have you ever walked by a woman on the street and wondered,” How does she get her hair so fabulous?” or “What product does she use to keep her skin glowing?” I’m sure you’ve asked similar questions, and if you haven’t, I definitely have. As you guys know by now, I’m not shy at all! So I usually approach the person and ask them their beauty secrets, but this time, rather than keeping the answers to myself, I’ve decided to share them with you beautiful girlies too. So this new feature will be called Word on the Street where I basically stop someone on the street and ask them what is it that makes them look so fabulous. My first victim (lol) is a stunning Haitian/Barbados beauty named Cheyenne:
Photobucket
I spotted Cheyenne while in Whole Foods yesterday picking up my dinner. This 18 year old stunner has one of the most beautiful locks I've ever seen-full of so much shine, and bounce, and so long. (My pics don't do them justice!) DE had to ask for her secrets. Luckily, she was willing to give them to me and I'm sharing them with you!
Photobucket
So Cheyenne, What's your hair regimen?
For shampoo, I used various ones but usually I stick with Garnier:
Photobucket
For my conditioner, it's always Origins Knot Free Finishing Rinse
Photobucket
And as a Leave in Conditioner, i always use John Masters Organics Citrus & Neroli Leave in Conditioner:
Photobucket

I asked Cheyenne what make-up she uses, and she says she likes a fresh face. However, when going out she uses Bare Escentuals.
Photobucket
and she swears by Jane Iredale Mascara:
Photobucket
Thanks Cheyenne,

Have any of you ever tried these products? I think I'm going to grab that John Masters Organics leave in.
We're having another give away so stay tuned. You can win a bag of BeautyLogic Approved items such as Aubrey & Giovanni conditioners, my favorite mineral makeup mineralogie, my signature scent Melange Tuberose and a whole bunch of other things. This time though, you'll only have to enter your name for this contest, so stay tuned.

Congrats to Carolina For Winning the Sephora Gift Certificate

What’s your beauty regimen?
I am a fan of many different brands so I am a crazy mixer but for me it works! :)

My beauty regimen for day is as follows:

- Wash my face with Juice Beauty's Cleansing GelPhotobucket (thanks to your review of Juice Beauty products I started using this cleanser, prior to switching to this cleanser I used Dr. Susan Taylor Rx for Brown Skin Bright and Clear:
Photobucket
- After cleansing I use the C.O. Bigelow Dr. Galen Herbal Skin Tonic Photobucket(it feels so refreshingly good on my skin!) as my toner.
- Following the tonic I use a tiny little drop of Philosophy's Hope in a Jar for Sensitive Skin Photobucket (since it is so thick) to moisturize and on over it I use Philosophy's When Hope Is Not Enough - sunscreen SPF 20 as my sun protector.
Photobucket
(Don't you just love how cute the names are of the Philosophy products? lol)

My beauty regimen for night is as follows:

- Same as above except that I also use Kiehl's Abyssine Eye Cream:
Photobucket

What’s the deal with your make-up?

I have been using BareEscentualsPhotobucket since 2002 and it works for me because I dont like to look like I have make-up. They have a lot of colors to choose from for blushes and eye shadows which I love a lot. I am too scared to try the liquid make-up b/c I always think it will make me break out.

What is your must have beauty product?
My must-have is definitely my Philosophy Sunscreen b/c I liked to be protected from the sun.

What beauty advice can you give us?
I would say that a woman should take care of herself within first before she can see her true beauty on the outside. So that means eating healthy, drinking water and taking the vitamins you need for your body and of course getting some exercise.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received (does not have to be beauty-related)?
Best advice I've received is 'always trust your gut feeling because it will always guide you to the right place.' And I truly believe that because it has worked for me.

Carolina, please email me with your address.

Guys, We're having another contest where a winner can get a BeautyLogic approved gift bag which will have Aubrey Conditioners I've recommended, Melange Tuberose Parfum, and a whole bunch of other things. This time though you'll only have to enter your name to win. I'll keep you updated Also, take a look at my new feature "Word on the Street" kind of like "beauty of the week" but not so detailed.

Also starting next week, for the months of June and July-the next Beauty of the Weeks will be my favorite bloggers-so stay tuned and learn about these fabulous, gorgeous and brilliant women.

Hugs,

One of DE’s Beauty SECRETS (Shhhh don’t tell anyone)

Yesterday I went to pick up my friend’s daughter from school. This little girl reminds me so much of myself when I was her age. She’s eleven years old, super shy, full of life, and a huge book worm. Unlike me though she’s incredibly adorable, (I was kind of funny looking growing up). Here’s a pic:

Photobucket
DE at 12

Anyway, currently she’s going through what many of you probably went through at her age- serious pimples. Growing up, I suffered from severe acne. My dermatologist recommended so many things from plain Benzol Peroxide to Retin-a and a whole bunch of other stuff. Nothing seemed to alleviate my condition so of course I was incredibly upset. Like many kids who grow up in inner city areas, I was constantly surrounded by sodas and juices that cost 50 cents and were loaded with sugars and massive chemicals. I would drink about three of those a day. My Mom would warn me that all those drinks were causing my pimples but I never paid attention (who listens to their mom when a teen lol?). However, after years of getting teased and dreading looking in the mirror, I became desperate and decided it was time to start doing what Mommie prescribed. So guess what? I began to solely drink water. All the 50 cents sodas and juices I would buy from the local bodega were thrown away and replaced with this:
Photobucket
Although it was a slow process, my skin got better. My greasy acne filled face finally began to clear up and after a few months of just drinking water, I rarely suffered from breakouts. Now as a woman in my mid twenties, I see not only the anti-acne effects of water but the anti-aging effects as well. Many of my colleagues (who never drink water) look a lot older than I do, and already have lines on their faces. I’m proud to say that I still get carded when I buy lotto tickets. (I only play when 200 million or more.) Hey you never know!!!!!!

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best ones. If you go to the islands of the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, you'll see the poorest women with the most beautiful and luminous skin. They don't have money to purchase $300 products, but luckily water is the most affordable and widely-available beauty product ever.

How much water do you drink a day? Any beauty secrets or remedies you want to share?

Things You Must Carry at All Times

When I go out with my friends to a lounge or event, I always like to carry a super chic cute small pochette. However, they all make fun of me because the fact of the matter is sometimes my "super chic cute small pochette" ends up looking like an overstuffed bag full of crap. (Many times I can barely zipper it). These are the six things that I must carry with me at all times, or I just can't function:

Mascara sweeties

Nothing opens up those eyes more. I have 6 favorites that I'll blog about later. But this is my classic one:

Lancome L'Extreme

Photobucket

When wearing this, I've been accused of having eyelash extensions-thats how much this mascare elongates and volumizes my lashes. HOWEVER (and some of you may disagree) I find that with the correct application of Covergirl Lash Blast, your lashes can look equally as fabulous (with a way less price-tag).

Photobucket

Blush

I have way too many to name, but these are the two that were in my bag last night.

Mineralogie Apricot Toast
Photobucket

This seriously makes me look as if I'm glowing.

My old favorite is:

The Mac Pink Swoon
Photobucket
Camera

I like to think of myself as The Dominican Sartorialist I take pictures of everything and everyone. You should see the pics I've taken in NY (maybe I'll start a new blog......nah). Here is a pic of one of my cameras:

Sony Camera

Photobucket

Chap Stick

I use a variety of them, but these are my old favorites.

Carmex with spf 15
Photobucket
or the classic Rosebud Lip Salve
Photobucket

Lip Gloss (I seriously have a lip gloss addiction)! I have way too many, but here are two that were with me last night.

Clinique Long Lasting LipWear with SPF15
Photobucket
Mac Ensign Lip Glass
Photobucket

Oil blotting Sheets
Clean & Clear Oil are my usual ones Yesterday in NY it was close to 100 degrees. I saw so many shiny and oily faces. A few times, I felt like passing New Yorkers some of these.
Photobucket

And of course, my Blackberry
Photobucket

Wait, shoooooot, I forgot one more thing. Ooh, maybe there are 7 things I must have.

My small Melange Apothecary concrete perfume of Tuberose. This smells so amazing.

Photobucket

Here's a pic of last night's overstuffed pochette.

Protect Yourself with Stila

Whether you’re at the beach or on the street, SPF protection is a must for summer. So why not perfect your summer skin as you protect it? Stila Cosmetics brings you makeup that holds up under the summer sun as it shields you from its harmful rays.

SPF 20 Shine Lip Color and Oil Free Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 are the latest SPF products from Stila that guard skin while providing stellar coverage with just a hint of color. For superior complexion protection this summer, Stila has you covered.

Try these summer products from Stila for sun-safe skin:

Illuminating Liquid Foundation SPF 15 ($36.00)

Photobucket

What it is: A silky, lightweight foundation for sheer to medium coverage.

What it does: Hides flaws and imperfections to create a luminous, airbrushed look. The semi-matte finish evens out natural skin tone, enhancing true beauty.

How it does it: Via mica, tiny crystals found in nature that reflect light and leave skin radiant and glowing.

From the expert: “This formula is perfect for sensitive skin or dry skin,” explains Lucero. “The foundation hydrates as it illuminates for natural, even coverage that never flakes or fades.”

New! Oil Free Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 ($36.00)

Photobucket

What it is: Moisturizer, sunscreen, and sheer coverage all in one.

What it does: Provides full protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays as it evens skin tone and blends flaws.

How it does it: White Willow Bark absorbs oil while Silk Amino Acids moisturize and smooth skin, improving natural barrier protection.

From the expert: “This is a must–have for the summer and for all skin types and tones—it leaves your skin looking healthy and polished,” says Lucero. “The texture feels creamy and light on the skin. Try using this alone or under your favorite powder. It can even be layered for extra coverage.”

Photobucket

New! SPF 20 Shine Lip Color ($20.00)

What it is: The lip-saver pouts can’t live without.

What it does: Protects lips’ sensitive skin as it imparts a shimmery sheen.

How it does it: SPF 20 protects against UVA and UVB rays while Vitamins A, C and E deliver maximum antioxidant protection and rich vegetable-based oils provide lightweight moisturization for the softest, smoothest lips.

From the expert: “This creamy sheer formula allows you to experiment with brighter shades and still look summer-ready,” Lucero explains. “Protect your lips and hydrate with this lip color—Vitamin E keeps lips soft and prevents chapping. Apply with brush #6.”

If any of you have tried any of these let me know.
